No, which is why I mentioned it.

Ok we're talking about two different things guys.

I was talking about how you couldn't see anything past a certain distance. Like how you can't see the carrier from the airfield at Wake, or how you can't see the carrier from the beach of Oman.

lol I meant to say two birds with one stone.

All the maps have it, as far as I recall, just Karkand was really thick.

No, its two birds with one stone. DICE has mentioned in the past both those reasons for using fog. The thing I am getting at is machines could render the game back then and people tweeked their systems to even do so as much as possible. By the last patch, why didnt they just turn it off because wouldnt the pcs by then be able to do the job?

So, yeah, I agree with you on that they used it for rendering, however, it was also used so that there wasnt long distance shots with vehicles and snipers, like you see in BC2.

The thing with BC2 is that the maps are much smaller and the bullet drop isnt always a big problem. I can see it being so in BF3. They are also adding more sway and a breathing thing, like in CoD4, so why have fog when you have all these variables now?

You can strongly believe that if you like, nothing wrong with that. Of course, it doesnt explain why there is fog today in BF2 and it was never turned off in a patch or how one of the great advantages of purchasing hack tools was to turn off the fog and that was during the time period CPUs and graphics couldnt handle such drawings. It also doesnt explain why there is a manual view depth in the settings of BF2 that could be adjusted for such hardware limitations.

Also, BC2 had smaller maps and larger bullet drop and sway that was not all seen in BF2 but will be seen in BF3.

Crunch, I'm pretty sure the fog was in there because the computers of the time could not handle all that rendering. By adding the fog, they drastically reduced the strain on the CPU.

Now in games like BC2 there is no fog whatsoever and snipers can fire as far as they can see a person or an enemy chevron marker. I strongly believe this is because today's CPUs, GPUs, and RAM can handle this level of detail.

    The fog in BF2.

It was implemented so snipers could not shoot across the map as they could then see forever. However, with sniper sway and the rumor that no sniper rifle is a one hit kill, that may not be an issue. I would think headshots would still be a problem though.

Why would they implement haze? This is freaking Frostbite 2.0, not whatever old thing BF2 had.

No, they didnt. The images doesnt show haze.

Did they actually say that? I didn't hear it but might have missed it, it was a long interview.
I can see that there wasn't any haze in the parts we saw, but that might simply have been disabled or not even implemented yet.

It's going to be very interesting to see how this game works. I very much enjoyed the sniping system in BF:BC2 so I'm looking forward to seeing something familiar in BF3. However, the lack of haze is going to change the gameplay drastically. You'll be able to see from hotel down to the bridge and snipe people at insane distances.

I wonder how much they'll change. I'm looking forward to this, lets hope it's BF3 and not BC3.
