BF3 map pack to include Karkand, Sharqi, Oman, and Wake
Re: BF3 map pack to include Karkand, Sharqi, Oman, and Wake
Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 were their last purchasable releases. And they're about to make bank with Portal 2.
I'm sure Steam is a big funder for their company, but it's not like EA is doing bad. They could spare $15 per map pack. Especially for maps which already have a functional layout. So that's four maps, which already have layouts and won't need so much testing, if any at all.
After MoH, it wouldn't hurt to rebuild some customer loyalty.

They may have plenty of loyalty, but AFAIK their sales are insignificant when compared to BF and COD.
And what good does that loyalty do them if they dont sell anything?
wouldn't be so sure they are so insignificant the half life series etc etc are among the highest selling games of all time, steam cuts out the middle man and even when they are selling games from other publishers they make money, the sales as well I remember reading some figures on them and it was the revenue that spiralled from a game being on sale, not just the number sold, which is why you often see these great deals, so many people buy them when the price is right

Valve is rolling in dough and they have plenty of plans with micro transactions. There was a news thing about them having as much or more capital than Google. A lot of that because of Steam, sure, but still.
Crunch
basically this, they have A LOT of money, the last bit of news was that they are more profitable per employee than Apple or Google

Valve doesn't really fit in with other game producers. They're rather innovative and unique, even if it means they don't release games as quickly as they should. :p
Also, I'm pretty sure that Orange Box sales alone dwarf BF2 significantly. I'd bet my life on it.
"Half-Life 2, released in 2004, has sold 6.5 million units at retail. The 2006 followup Half-Life 2: Episode One sold 1.4 million units at retail. Half-Life 2 marked the beginning of Valve's practice of releasing its titles simultaneously at retail and via its Steam digital distribution service."
"Last year's The Orange Box -- which included new titles Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, as well as Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One -- has sold 3 million units at retail since release. It was Valve's first product to be simultaneously released for multiple platforms."
L4D2 has sold even more: "In February 2010, Electronic Arts, Left 4 Dead 2 retail distributor, revealed that the game had sold 2.9 million on retail so far[119] while Forbes wrote that more than 4 million copies were sold at stores in 2009." (wikipedia again)
Battlefield 2 has sales of over 2,250,000 copies worldwide, as of July 2006. According to wikipedia.
Re: BF3 map pack to include Karkand, Sharqi, Oman, and Wake
Anyone know what producers are saying about how soon new maps will come out in BF3? I have read in different forums that no new maps for awhile was a problem with many gamers and some left BF2 and BFBC2 because of that. Thanks.

I've read that they plan to do it more than in bc2 and they learned from that mistake. That doesn't really tell us much.

Thats amazing, I would never had guessed that.
I always thought that TF2 was relatively unknown compared to Battlefield.
