Heads up on buying Vietnam on Steam.

So after looking around and reading posts on the EA UK Battlefield forum, I read that you could use a Vietnam key bought on Steam with the retail version of BC2. The catch though is you can't actually buy it without owning BC2 on Steam already, and it also looks like you can't gift it unless the person you are gifting it to has the game on Steam as well. That means anyone with the retail box have to buy it from EA Store or an unofficial source.

EA should just allow the damn retail box to be added to steam like a regular Steam bought game. I didn't want BC2 to be tied to Steam, but now I'm kind of regretting it.

      I agree, Steam's good ****.

It's nice to have something which you can always log into to access the games you own.

I did the same thing and pre-ordered it without reading the notice. I sent Steam support an email asking them and they told me the same thing the noticed said and I could have a refund if I wanted. Some people say it only gives you the key and that Vietnam is already on your computer from the last patch. So I will wait and see. What is the worst that could happend, out of 15 dollars?

Physical copy and digital copy should be interchangeable.

I think that would cause too many problems.

Like CD key generators would end up getting real copies of the game for paying nothing. And then stores would have to give out copies of games with getting less profit. Etc...

I would like it though, but just too many problems would rise from it.

Well it is interchangeable, In the steampage there is a button "Add Game" just put your key in there and there you go..

I've uninstalled MW2 since BFBC2 came out but with the whole media hype arround Black-ops I reinstalled it again without the retail version of the game because it was allready registerd via Steam.

              Or am I going mad??

Thats the way it works, also, to combat "Piracy" (which is crazy talk for "Less users on PC than Consoles") Activision made all of their CoD games from MW2 onward steam integrated.

But pirated games don't support multiplayer, who would want to play BFBC2 single-player lol? It's like chewing wax, the whole plot is very dull.

MW2 is a steamworks game, all versions requires steam.
With most other games, adding them will not convert them to the steam version.

And that makes sense too, why should steam offer free downloads of a game that you bought from a competitor?

BFBC2 isnt fully steam integrated though, and the reason that Activision did it was because their dedicated servers were free and apparantly people were running cracked servers or something, the point is, game develeopors are more desperate to stop piracy, if in more evil ways.

does anyone know how this is gonna unlock? I'm assuming it's going to be like the specact kit; purchase with same email as the soldier; but does anyone know for sure? Are they just going to push a button and unlock everyone who preordered on Saturday?

I have read that only the people that ordered Vietnam on the EA store get early access to the game on the 18th and everyone else has to wait until the 21st. But I could be wrong.

Yep. The steam billboard says that if you pre-order on steam you get early access.

So here is a troll question: If the EA store is for bought copies and the steam store are for steam copies, what is the direct2drive store for?
