    Decisions Decisions!

Alright guys i need your help with this. Im wanting to place a pre-order for COD:BO so i can pick it up on release day however im torn between whether to get it for the PC or my Xbox. Now i know this is a PC forum but i will give you my argument and just want you guys to help me out.

Firstly i played both CoD4 and W@W on the PC and loved them both putting in hundreds of hours. However because i knew that MW2 was going to be horrible on the PC i choose to get it on my console where i enjoyed it as much as that game could be enjoyed.

The problem i have is that because i live in Perth Australia sometimes matchmaking can be an easier strategy to have a decent ping therefore making the console option a good idea. Servers in Australia can be hard to come by at the best of times, especially when companies dont understand that connecting to Sydney is literally half of Europe away for some people.

Although i would much rather get it on the PC im afraid that because of MW2's fail on the platform not many people will opt at buying it and so i will be stuck with a game that doesnt have any viable servers and therefore a lack of online gameplay.

If i could be sure that enough people are going to be playing the game on PC over here in Australia it would be a much easier choice.

    I need help!

    Re: Decisions Decisions!

Well, I was going to wait to mention this, but as the game gets closer to release, I planned on posting up servers around the world so people could decide.

If I had to tell you right now, I would say get the console. The thing is that gamerservers is actually putting up a lot of new location servers. Now there is no telling how well or overcrowded these servers are going to be. I think there is going to be an overflow of issues on release date, which is why I am going to wait on this title. I dont think the game will be the issue, its going to be the only server provider in the WORLD. Kinda like EA and master servers, but in a much larger scale.

So, with that said, I say wait and see or go console.

      Re: Decisions Decisions!

Yea thats the other thing that puts me off the PC version is the fact that one company are hosting servers which means there is going to be huge stress tests needed that might take weeks after release to finalize, AND will only reduce the player base on PC more.

Another reason i want the PC version is that my beloved M14 is apparently making a return and using single shot weapons on a console is just a waste and will only lead to your death.

If i knew right now there were going to be Perth servers on the PC (or even anywhere in Australia if i have to settle for that) AND that the player base was going to be big enough i would grab the PC versions hands down.

I dont think you will have to worry about player base. I visit a lot of forums and it seems many are chomping at the bit.

Of course they also think that everything is going to be fine on release. We shall see.

I'm pretty sure I saw mentions about Perth servers somewhere... will go look for it.

EDIT: Naw, was Adelaide... which is still closer than Sydney. But like Crunch said, wait and see or console is probably the best decision.

Why not wait a bit and see how many Aussie servers there are?

I know i should wait and see. Maybe give it a few days after release especially as i have exams starting on the 9th.

Adelaide isnt too bad. Can you not rent servers then? As in i couldnt set up my own Perth dedicated server through gameservers?

Yeah, you can rent them. You have limited control of them, but it should be enough.

Right now, you won't be able to rent a Black Ops server in Perth. The only locations that you can rent them right now are listed at http://www.gameservers.com/blackops/. Of course, they are constantly making new locations, especially with the pressure of them being the only GSP for the game.

Regarding server stress, I don't think you have to worry about that. Gameservers isn't a small company by any means, and they have servers for tons of games. Just because there are going to be a lot of servers for one game won't change anything. In fact, they are probably going to focus on this game more than others, which is better.

Thats true that they are big, but, and I can only speak for myself, I can tell when I am on a gameserver because they always have that signature lag every few seconds or so. It always got me because their slogan, if I am not mistaken, is "frag not lag."

I play on Gameservers servers regularly in BC2 but I don't experience much lag. But I know that they are notorious for overloading their boxes, which leads to laggy servers. But since Activision is putting so much pressure on them being the only GSP, I don't think we will experience that problem as much. But this is a major concern.

Looks like i might just have to wait and see as to which version to get. Where are they actually situated as i see on that list that the Australian servers were listed first?

I plan on waiting to read some reviews before I decided if I am going to get the game.

The site automatically arranges the server locations by closeness to you. Atlanta is my first one. They are actually headquartered in New Jersey.

Well in a new twist my Xbox appears to be dying from the current heat wave we are having meaning getting it on the console might be a bad idea. I have asked around about numbers that stores have received for pre-orders and the console vastly outsells the PC.

Im very tempted to pick up the PC version for cheap (around 20-30 AUS$) and if it doesnt work out trade in some games for the 360 version.
