  • lag - how bad for you?

can some of you do a test for me?
    or something similar?
I pull my tank up next to an fixed AT
(well - 10 meters or so)
    and shoot it
    round goes flying through
then TWO or THREE WHOLE Seconds later - it blows up
pings are good (about 50 in browser) and 125 or so in game

    also - yesterday
enemy on ATV drive right through me 3 times in a row
I ripped him to shreds with g3 from crouched
    neither of us died
    someone else finally shot him

    is my lag that bad???
does this explain why I can walk up behind a guy in bldg
drop to one knee - unload a whole clip (g3 - standard ammo)
and he can still turn and kill me? (7 of 10)

yet most of my tank kills seem ok (lag wise)
I can TONS of 1 shot skills vs troops - especially over 100 meters - like arty
and can win 90% of tank battles (I used alt fire)

oh well - still fun - (but damn frustrating at times)

Re: lag - how bad for you?

    What are your system specs?

I find that the lag in my squads/clans server varies, but one thing remains constant and thats when there are a mass amount of explosions happening or the MCOM is armed, I lag.:shakehead: I run 2.7Ghz Dual with a 4850 1Gb ATI video card and 3 Gigs of RAM with XP Pro.

This game is extremely rough on systems, especially the dual cores.

sytem is old -= but fair
      3.2 ghz dual core
      6 gb ram
      8800C
      dsl 8/.7
      win XP

I am sure it is my MB (memory bus??)
as my pals have had same system cpu/video/ram
      and do just fine

I play only 16 man servers (more = 1 fps)
even now, on ground/smoke/dust fps drops from 10 to 1
(ergo me in ground fight = death)

      but even in empty server
of fps sneaks up to 15
I get this HUGE lag when I hit something (eg the TOW)

Re: lag - how bad for you?

If you have 6 Gigs of RAM I am assuming you are running XP 64 bit, your system specs are actually better than mine, however you are running DSL and that in of itself will bottleneck with this game. I have cable internet with 25Mb D/L and 3.5 Mb U/L, plus I run 5 gaming systems at the same time, with 2 or the 5 running BC2 simultaneously, so I would venture to say that your DSL is causing you a mass of you lag problems.
As for the TOW showing more lag than other areas, I really can't say that I have seen that, truthfully I try to stay away from things, due to snipers and 120mm snipers.

Re: lag - how bad for you?

There are too many factors that affect lag, or lack of lag. You could have a bad cable or an issue with your DSL you dont even know about. It could be a program doing something in the background (Like AV or AS). It could be the server you are playing on or even the players on the server with higher pings than you. I hate it when the Chinese come into a server I play on. Their ping is 300+ and I cannot kill them. The plus side is they cant kill me either, but to compensate I have to shoot way ahead of them because where I see them, they are already gone.

To answer your general question, I dont suffer from lag that bad, but do get killed when I ran behind a wall and thought I was safe.

Beav = your isp is insane
I bet less than .001% have something that good !
but for FYI - DSL is not the problem
son plays on line sometimes - he gets over 100fps most of the itme
and never less than 60 fps

WinXP only recognizes 3.5 GB - but still runs better with 6gb installed vs the 4gb

I have NO background programs running (firewall AV etc)

and to Crunch - yesterday - game went REAL $h i t ty (yes even more than normal)
            had some (2) pingers over 400 !
so. trick with lag/ping is to lead them?
I get many helo kills with tank - seem like the 'tail' or to lag them works more often then not ??

            still having fun!

Re: lag - how bad for you?

I have ran into a few times where I shot behind the person and killed them, but that may be due to the hitbox changes DICE put in to stretch those by how fast someone or something is going.

Have your son play on the same server as you and see if he has the same issues. If not, then its something with your equipment.

Whats the specs of your video card?

Whats the contrast between you system versus your sons?

I used to have an 8800 GTS 320 card, I upgraded to the 4850 1Gb and overclocked it, and was able to see a great difference.

25 mb/s is probably standard in most of europe now, I'm on 20 and upgrading to 50 in a month (fiber optic ftw).

Oh and I know a lot of people still play with dual core still, but upgrading to a cheap quad core will do you wonders, one of my clanmates had a real similar rig to mine (880GTX and a intel dual core @ ghz). He upgraded to to a Q6600 a while back when bc2 was out for about a month and saw ridiculous fps increases. The game is just so CPU hungry/dependent it's stupid.

yes - that is my guess

and to Beav - my video card is 8800OC

What Frosty said is so true, I just upgraded my rig comming from a E6800 dual core 3.0 to a Q9400 2.6 and a new video card replacing my 8800GT to a 465 GTX.

The overall performance of the game really increased to a steady 50 fps without any serious lag issues.

Also changing the Direct X version to 10 instead of "auto"

atacama causes tons of lag becasue of dust and explosions sometimes.

I started having really bad ping issues and massive lagg spikes about a week or so ago. My fps will drop from over 100 to 5 -7 for 5-10 seconds and it shows half the sever with ping of 1000+. I always have avg running but not scanning and its not been a problem before
                              My rig
                              Phenom 2 965 quad core
                              MSI 5850
                              4 gig ram
                              20 meg adsl
                              Win 7 64

This happens in UK and US based servers. I was playing on a UK based server and mentioned it and an admin said it was a patch issue. Anyone else heard of this ??
