This is exactly how I feel, except about 2142. Just that feeling of playing for years and still loving the game. Its almost like nostalgia itself because I havent seen it since. I try to go back, but it never feels the same without my old friends and the 24/7 servers.

Yeah, but also....infantry combat kind of sucked, I much prefered that of CoD:UO. No squad support, no HUD on vehicles..............BF2/2142 are more fun IMO/

7! see Dice you are poor a hit

Sounds like the hit boxes become mysterious when moving target online, only net code & your connection (.) (.)

Let hope the net programmer is a talent - presuming the hit boxes are top notch i.e boxes we can hit [no lag]; i <3 boobies ^^ and group testing

BF2 has this aura about it, Dice and many others talk about "battlefield moments", in BF2 (or 2142 and probably 42), these moments would be truely awesome, in the latest games everything seems to be all cluster****ed into a meatgrinder with a dash of dust and explosions.

All of the latest games have catered towards console gamers, they just want to get in there and be shooting all the time, shooting, dying and "pwning". But in BF2 it wasn't all intense action but you got this great feeling of camaraderie, whether it be when 3 tanks role into a flag and rip up ****, or when a choppers comes in and rains hell on the enemy team.

I really can't put my finger on it but BF2 just had an aura about it, when you play it, something magical is bound to happen, with the latest games (like bc2), it's just all a bit meh.

edit: Like for example, many people complain about the choppers and jets being OP, but it really drills fear into you when you hear that MEC gunship gunner pounds explosive rounds outside your building. In BC2 it's just a simple *yawn* tracer CG/RPG/ anything, in BF2, there is a sense of fear when a chopper/jet is coming to your flag. I bloody loved that :P

frosty you are more than true! There was a sence of fear when you saw an enemy hely or plane or tank if you were on foot, now its just jump out and chuck norris all the way in.

I need to have the feeling of bf2 and bf2142 renovated . all bf2 had with more stuff, destructible environment and better graphics ( GOOD OPTIMIZED PC GRAPHICS! NOT CONSOLE PORT) and physics would do the job

whatever the problem is, BF3 will be the last chance for dice. i've been a bigtime BF fan but they have mostly disappointed in recent years. i just hope some other game company can make a decent BF type game so i can jump ship.

I am hoping Novalogic can maybe step up to the plate with their next release, Angel Falls, if it ever comes out.

BF2 is good for all the gameplay possibilities but the game have his problems, like maps with tons of flags feel like you're playing musical chair, horrible weapons accuracy, op aircrafts, almost useless commander except for 24/24h UAV and uber arty. BF2142 have a better balance and weapons accuracy.

frosty you are more than true! There was a sence of fear when you saw an enemy hely or plane or tank if you were on foot, now its just jump out and chuck norris all the way in.
More like a sense of annoying considering you couldn't do anything with the ****ty fixed stingers. Planes and choppers could really ruin a round.

Also waiting to see if BF3 is going the casual way or not.

Re: Why can't any games after Bf2 capture the fun that Bf2 is or was?

i think what bf2 had that was the greatest thing ever was the squad system with one man as the squad leader. the single squad leader as the only mobile spawn point really put importance on teamwork. the best games of my life have been where it was my assigned duty to either keep the squad leader alive or to run in as point man in front of the SL so clear out enemies for him.

i played alot of sharqui peninsula because IMO it was and is the best map ever created. but all of the bf2 maps were good because of their diversity. there were maps of jungle, desert, urban, swamp, and mountainous, and everyone got to play where they wanted. with BC2 there are 3 types of maps and they get old rather quickly. the size of the maps really opened up the possibilities as to what your were going to do that game.

the hope for bf3 for me is very low. what crushed me about bf2 is that we were promised 124 people on a server but that was reduced. then BC2 was reduced to 32. i think BF3 will be 32 or at the most 48, but it will still be a console port.

i will add however, that BC2 did have some improvements over bf2 in the way of destructible environments, less grenades, no prone, and more weapons.

I think squads were way better in 2142. By adding points for doing things with your squad and near squad orders, it tricked some people into actually working as a team. Some people can never be saved, but some will do anything for more points, including teamwork.

True. something i also loved from bf2142 and noticed at the beggining of the game where the animations they did, like raising theyr arm when saying "I need ammo" or pointing to the front when saying "go go go" , that added a lot to the squad experience

I too have found this true. BF2 was the only game I have played and still played 3 years later. I tried BC2, COD, but it's always BF I come back too in the end. Hopefully BF3 can capture it again

I wouldn't expect anything from BF3, or any of the next big titles.

The general trend with all the bigger companies are focusing on a console game then PC being an afterthought.

                                Im around <3

I blame all of this on total pussyfication of games. There needs to be an immersion factor. You dont get this when you can stand toe to toe against another player using a force multiplier, which was the point of vehicles in the first place. When poor players started complaining about balance, everyone flipped out and now we have equality. I hope that someday someone will realize this and get back to the roots of gaming, which is fun and playing with toys you cant play with in real life. Until then, Im perfectly satisfied with 6+ year old multiplayer games.
