Why can't any games after Bf2 capture the fun that Bf2 is or was?

What was it about Battlefield 2 that made it so much fun that no game since, in my opinion, can capture that? Well don't get me wrong the other games were fun but only for a little while. BF2 had me playing for 5 years. The others maybe a year at best. I am thinking about going back to BF2 and finally getting my 3 star. I really hope Battlefield 3 brings back the fun that BF2 is or was.

BC is too scripted, has about 1/4 of the content of bf2 and lacks depth or freedom. Also no mods mean no future to it except EAs so called mappacks

Again Dice/EA have neglected the vets so i really think they have missed the boat

Honestly can another company take over where bf2/1942 left:cry:,PLEASE!

With all due respect regarding 1942, I am sure it was and still is a great game, I didn't really play it. Most of my friends were playing Spearhead at the time so I completely missed out on it.

well it was more epic than bf2...
for example: carriers, battleships, destroyers/cruisers, subs were all drivable.

Maybe, hopefully they will bring all of that back in BF3.

I think it was the sum of a lot of things. It was the pinnacle of the battlefield series. 1942 was great but BF2 brought faster gameplay and modern weapons into play. It added the "commander", Uav, commander assets, a useful commrose, good maps, and lets not forget vehicles. BF2's vehicles really rocked and with some practice you could really master them. Awesome pilots, dogfights, chopper crews, soloing, tank convoys. Also don't forget about the detailed stats and ranks.

Re: Why can't any games after Bf2 capture the fun that Bf2 is or was?

To be honest, I've had more fun with BFBC2. BF2 penalized me too much for having a decent ping, and I have a HELL of a time aiming behind everything to get kills. So I sucked at BF2, did okay at BF2142, and kick the **** out of people in BFBC2.

I also hated getting spawnraped by jets or spammed by grenades. There were only a few maps I even liked at all. Karkand and Wake, the two most popular, were the worst in my opinion.

I just don't see BF2 through the same rose-colored glasses that many people wear, is all...

Preferred BF2 over 42 and absolutely couldn't get into BC2.

On a scale of 1 to 10, one being the worst and 10 being the best, how would you rate the hit detection for BF2 and BC2?

                          BF2-5, BC2 7.
The biggest gripe I have about BC2's hit detection is the running hit box, the dummies increase the hit box size of those that re running. Plainly they don't shoot often, because if a target is moving it is HARDER to hit.
This is just MY opinion though.

I see your point. However at the time there was really nothing like BF2 that could offer what it offered. Sure if I load in right now im going to get stomped by all the 'pros' who are still playing. But when it came out and was still populated with many more players you could get much more enjoyable rounds. Wake did kind of suck. My favourite maps were Mashtur and Songhua, both ridiculously underplayed as they were very good maps with decent balance.

When I look back at BF2 I think of the many many many hours of ranked that I sank into the game, I think of the many more hours doing stunts on the Sir server, playing sandbox, playing POE, playing PR and FH2.

Now I think I have put nearly as many hours into PR as vanilla.

@The op's post. I dont think any other game has been able to capture land/sea/air in the same way without being a milsim or just terrible. Bf2 allowed you to play any role without having to spend hours learning how each asset works. The somewhat rock/paper/scissors gameplay worked so well.

I just hope for BF3 DICE do not try to compete directly with MOH and MW2 in (lets face it) infantry combat and stick to 1942 style gameplay, with maybe BC's customisation, although I hope they do away with the stupid perk systems.

I never really play BC as its just a frustration to me. I already have games that do the infantry combat much better and the minimal role of vehicles is annoying. The limits on classes is another thing that really bugged me.

Both are like 5. I don't know if the hit detection is done all server side or something but it's not nearly as fluid and responsive as many other games out there. I rarely have problems with hit reg, but it just doesn't feel "right" after playing on source, quake (including CoD) and other engines for some time
