I discovered that the battle.net account is tied into blizzards RealID scheme, which IMHO threatens your privacy.
For some reason the option to turn it off is hidden within the parental controls, but it can be done.

I am getting annoyed that everything feels the need to publish my personal info these days.

I just picked it up today. So far sp is good.

Do I need to play the first one to understand the story in the 2nd one?

Wow, I didn't even know this thread existed and I'm a big SC fan(I'm sure you all already knew that) otherwise I would of been the first to submit my reply saying "ITS FRICKEN AWESOME!"

Not really, the manual has a summary of the story.

The game flows great, it's wonderful to play. This game is one of the most excellent strategy games I possibly attempted, with an amazing campaign with a depth story, game play that provides hours of fun and tons of strategies.

i agree with what veronicaZora said. I own this game and i freaking love to play with some friends and im still learning anyway i can about this game.

real fun and real strategy are within this game!
