high settings vs medium settings

does anyone else think changing settings to HIGH like texture, level of detail, effects doesn't really hurt your fps vs MEDIUM settings?

i always used medium until today, i just tried high to see how much it would slow down and to my surprise i realized it didn't really change. and i have a crappy 8800gt so it was even more of a surprise. maybe this game is more about cpu than gpu afterall.

That actually helped a lot a lot in battlefield 2, I have always set my graphics on intense but then noticed a huge different in lag when I watered down it to the max.
I haven't tried that on bc2 yet just because the graphics is awesome and I think it actually helps in bc2 because It helps identify the enemies afar better!

I have 88ooGTS and yes high is ok but when it comes to playing infantry real fast and sniper i feel medium might be better

People who have a high end machine always want the best graphics possible. Which is great and all, but playing online games is usually a different matter than single player. Playing an FPS game at max settings can actually hurt you more if your computer isn't quite fast enough. That is why I play the game at minimum settings except for overgrowth which I leave at medium because the trees in the game look fugly otherwise. I play at 1920x1080 and get 60fps average on most maps or even higher on some with my settings. If I was still using my old CRT monitor i would probably play at a lower resolution for higher fps. BFBC2 requires a fast quad core CPU to really be enjoyable at max settings. I have a C2Q Q6600 running at stock speed (My motherboard doesn't want to give me a stable overclock)

I have found that I lag more on medium and low settings now. I upgraded my CPU recently and I have to play on high settings or I lag. Weird I know, but it is how I am playing with very little lag, except the wonderful EA/DICE lag that seems to haunt all servers.

I have a 2.7G Dual Core processor, HD4850 1Gb OC'ed to 749/2350 with XP Pro 32bit OS.

there is GPU, and CPU, and Bus speed
(my GPU and CPU are fine = but I get KILLED with LOW FPS
(less than 10)
when more than 20 players in game
and/or high special effects (eg smoke)
in an empty server
fps = 30-40 on lowest
fps = 20-30 on highest
add people (up to 20) - cut those in half
over 20 = near dead stop on highest
especially Panama

I liked playing Crysis on maximum settings.

That should clear up how I feel about graphics. I want it was good as it gets.

I miss my GTX260 core 216 896mb OCed to 710MHz from 650.

HD5850 from XFX. Max frames on high with everything on.

However, I play on low just to get the annoying curtain of dust out of the way.

Visually, I find high and medium looks the same.

Textures and Geometry on High, everything else on Low/Off.

i still play crysis on MAXIMUN settings (30 fps) and i still play bfbc at lowest settings and i stil get 15 fps.

try on different server size
ie - an empty server
then 16 players
then 32
(my fps with 32 players is still less than 10)
so I stay under 20 players - still get lags down to 10
which I can handle - if in armor/helo
or if I want to play on the ground
then - 16 player max

Same here

I'll gladly play singleplayer games on high settings but I play online on lowest. Cleaner visuals, and a high, stable fps make me very happy. :wee:
