I agree to some extent, but my from my experience, Ive seen more teamwork in games which do not have progressive stat tracking, and subsequently, Ive seen more "regulars" stick around in those games. I guess it has to do with no goals which are fed to you by the game. On the other hand, when a game rewards you more for your perfomance, I have seen more teamstacking, tricks which can be seen as cheap (glitching for example).

I much prefer stats based games over ones without. I like the feeling of accomplishing something.

I like stats based game when it doesn't alterate the gameplay. I like awards for playing with certains weapons, it gives you an incentive to use them. Unlockables on the other hand often come with stats and are ok when they're fast to unlock and don't give you any kind of advantages, not like magnum ammo for example.

I agree with Chris though, in games that dont have a stats system you do see a lot more teamwork and fewer cheaper tactics simply because its about playing the game and having fun rather than maximizing your points etc.

Depends of the game then, I've seen a lot of people doing nothing, playing alone or just trying to improve some technics for clan matches while leaving the rest of the team alone. As for cheap tactics I remember in BF:V choppers were camping flags and killing everything (the circle of doom) and you saw that EVERY rounds.

There was plenty of teamwork in 2142 and yet this game was stat based, same level of teamwork than a Wolfenstein ET for example.

Re: Woes of climbing ranks. How do you do it?

It's a simple enough philosophy - you can't have a game that tracks individuals' stats and expect most players to care about anything other than their own individual selves. Cheap tactics will always exist in games as will exploits and cheap weapons, but people will grow tired of using them if there's nothing that carries over from round to round showing them how awesome they are. This means that the tossers that only care about increasing their individual score will have nothing to gain by continually playing and will either start playing the game for fun or just quit the game entirely and move on to other things. You really think people would sit in the back of an overturned humvee holding left click and repairing it with their wrench for 20 minutes if there were no long-term recording of their stats? Or knife-reviving? Or sitting in a vehicle in the middle of nowhere while their buddy throws nades out the back? I'm sure people don't find this fun and are only doing it for zomgstatz0rz! Take away the stats, you take away players that do **** like that. What you're left with is a game with a lower playerbase but a higher quality of players.

Unfortunately, lower player base usually translates out to lower sales in the corporate world so I'm afraid stats are here to stay. Why do you think Titan 'gameplay' was so popular in BF2142, and why Rush is so popular in BC2? It's not the superior gameplay, that's for sure. It's all about the points and stats, folks.

Like I said it's not true, in BF:V they were people abusing the choppers or using the op kit with the uber M60+Law all day long, yet there was no stats. After the patch you saw rpg/law spamming everywhere, mortar pixel shooting etc much like the use of the Carl Gustav/40mm. Base rape/bomb was also plenty in BF1942/V. Some people takes their fun from killing their opponent no matter if the tactic is cheap or not, and care about their K/D stats or not. Wolfenstein ET I can cleary remember some players just trying to headshot and not care at all about the dynamite planted, etc etc

The truth is stats do encourage some kind of behavior but all in all there's not that much of teamwork in non-based stats game, it's just the teamwork is not motivated by selfish reasons.

What youre describing isnt glitching but survival in its pure form. Unless youre using the most efficient weapon combination, you will get steamrolled. Theres a difference between accomplishing goals with what many consider "cheap" weapons and actually cheating the system with selfish gameplay (glitching, for example). If stats are used to promote teamwork and team effort over individual goals, then I guess its getting the best out of the worst situation. Playing POE2 on TG server, early BF2 Demo days, SWAT4 VIP Escort days just made collecting kills alone pointless as the results didnt carry over. Chatter over VOIP, kudos from the opposition and close victories were worth much more. Not saying you dont have these in stat oriented games at all, but selfless gameplay occurs much more rarely.

Imagine AMMO and HEAL were 50 Each and kills were 10 each.

Planting are 1,000 each and disarming 2,000 each.

                    Kills are only 10.

I want to see people not play as a team now, although this could backfire into stat pad fest.

It would be interesting if getting kills didnt get you points however getting the badges for kills still did.

That way the only way to get points would be to work as a team.
