Tracer gun help

Can someone tell me what this tracer gun really does do?
I've herd some say it scares the tank driver cause it constantly beep
Then I've herd It makes the target a square so you can "trace or track it" anywhere
I've also herd it makes the explosion bigger
And the gun profile say's it makes your rocket heat seeking?
I like AT kit a lot and I think it would help me a lot if I knew what it really do

1. Plant Tracer on target. (Vehicle,Person or mounted gun)
2. GTFO
3. From behind cover, aim at red square until the range appears below
4. Fire in any direction. Straight up is usually good

It gives you 30 points too if you plant one.

Gunner seat on a gunship has tracer as alt fire.

that is correct. The TV missle alt weapon for the chopper can also lock onto the tracer pistol dart. Works great when you can get your squad mates to tag vehicles on the ground while you fly

You can also disable the tracer by firing smoke - either vehicle smoke or GL smoke - I'm assuming the intent is to simulate obscuring the target.

The intent is to give an artifical purpose to smoke because quite frankly it's strange that smoke disable tracer but you can't remove it with the repair tool... It's not even logic, the tracer work by emitting waves into a GPS system or something like that, not just glowing (otherwise how you can detect the tracer behind obstacles), smoke shouldn't do anything.

I don't even find it good for gameplay to be honest, I rather be able to remove it with the magic repair tool or even fire in the tracer to destroy it.

That would make the tracer useless, since most tanks have a tail of Engineers attached. Smoke is much more rare.
