I don't know if it is just me... but I am running on cable and ever since day one I've noticed many times that when I jump behind a corner to avoid enemy gun fire I always die 1 or 2 seconds behind the wall when clearly I have made it far enough. It also happens a lot when you're ducking behind cover as well. Most of my friends realizes this issue too so I'm wondering if it's just part of the game because so many things are going on that lag cannot be fixed to near well? Does anyone noticed it too? or do I just have to suck it up and enjoy a 1 second delay game?

Re: More things blowing up means more lag
I have noticed it too, but not frequent enough to ruin the game for me.
But I have a sneaking suspicion that we would notice it a lot more if we had MW2 style killcams. As it is now, we just assume that we lost fair and square.
Does anybody know how much load BC2 puts on the servers? I am wondering if a lot of the servers lack the power to run it properly. Because I get decent ping and FPS, but the game still lags a lot on some servers. -
Re: More things blowing up means more lag
Yep, happens to me as well. Dont know if its lag or something strange with the game. I havent tried it since the last patch, which is suppose to improve hit detection. Maybe thats something causing it.

Re: More things blowing up means more lag
From my understanding of netcode, getting killed behind cover is often caused by lag compensation. Whenever a player fires, the server actually goes back a few "frames" (simulation frames) and checks to see if anyone was in the path of a bullet then, instead of just going with whatever it has at the moment, which could cause people to have to excessively lead/predict the movement of their targets.
Getting killed behind cover, then, means that it probably took a bit longer than normal for the server to get the "trigger pulled" message from your killer's computer, look back, and see that the bullet hit you while you were in the open. It then sent the damage message to your computer, but in the meantime, from your perspective you were already behind cover.
That's my understanding at least, I believe this happens in a lot (most?) games, as it's a standard lag compensation technique. It even happened in BF2 and other games running on that engine.Comment

Re: More things blowing up means more lag
Shenanigans. I never had this happen in CoD4 or WaW. I join servers with 15ms pings. I do the same in BF games, but their hit detection is generally crap. MW2 was the first time in the last 5 years I've had this nonsense that wasn't a BF title. I didn't see rubberbanding or bendy bullets like this even in UT or Q3, and I started those on dial-up.Originally posted by =MNKY=Frostyit...happens...on...every...single...fps...:

Re: More things blowing up means more lag
Couldn't some of that just be bullet penetration? I personally don't see any kind of lag on most North american servers, and it's gotten better as the days go on.
For the people that are experiencing some of this, do you happen to know where the servers are actually hosted?Comment

If bullets penetrate the Hesco Bastions and freaking hills/boulders, sure.Originally posted by sithdemonCouldn't some of that just be bullet penetration?
To clarify: I'm not talking about running behind a wooden shack or a fence. I'm talking about concrete and stone.Comment

Re: More things blowing up means more lag
I think it's more graphical lag; I get this when I try to play on medium to high settings (my vcard can't really handle this game well, rush is ap ain to play on both attack and defense if someone arms the mcomm) sometimes you stand still but "running" and then it's your cue to know you were dead a while ago, just that the game hadn't told you.Comment

Re: More things blowing up means more lag
anyone who played the old red faction knows how much geo mod destruction lagged the game, even in 16 player games. i'm not surprised by lag in BC2 but i am somewhat worried if they'll will be able to alleviate some of this lag when it comes time for 64 players in BF3.Comment

I don't think Battlefield 3 will have destructible buildings perhaps maybe a little but I believe destructible terrain is mainly for the bad company series.Originally posted by Minmasteranyone who played the old red faction knows how much geo mod destruction lagged the game, even in 16 player games. i'm not surprised by lag in BC2 but i am somewhat worried if they'll will be able to alleviate some of this lag when it comes time for 64 players in BF3.Comment

Re: More things blowing up means more lag
Actually there is a good chance it will have more. From what I've read Battlefield 3 will run on Frostbite 2.0, where as Bad company 2 runs on 1.5. It will probably mean close to total annihilation of the stage, getting close to world in conflict level of ravaged terrain.Originally posted by RedinkI don't think Battlefield 3 will have destructible buildings perhaps maybe a little but I believe destructible terrain is mainly for the bad company series.
It could still be a couple years away, maybe next year. If they can't wait for new consoles then I don't know what they will do for those versions, however with even better dx11 cards, even 40 players should be easy to do on PC, hopefully closer to 50. 64 players I could see being possible for higher end systems by then, and as dx11 matures along with this engine, it's just a question of how soon.Comment

Re: More things blowing up means more lag
Give me 64 players and a huge map and no lag issues, I can live without destruction 2.0!Originally posted by Minmasterits less about graphics lagging, it's how destruction causes network lag. someone from DICE mentioned this long time ago and said the network congestion from frostbite destruction is going to limit the # of players.Comment
