i'm considering bumping up my Q6600 to 3.0ghz. what kind of performance gain could i expect? would it be even worth it? rest of my HW is 8800GT and 3GB memory and i'm running win7 64.

With my q6600 when I overclocked to 3.2 I got an extra 10 fps.

That assumes that your CPU is the bottleneck, you wont gain much from overclocking the CPU if you GFX card is holding you back. But lets us know what happens.Originally posted by Minmastercool, 25% or 10 frames is a lot actually, i'd be happy with that kind of gain. gonna try it soon and i'll report back.

Would anybody recommend getting a GTS250 1GB ddr3 ram or a 5750 card for an E8400 at stock clocks? I know getting anything better would make my processor bottleneck the card anyways, and my mobo won't allow me to overclock at all, some issue with the model, it's a gigabyte mobo; so all I can do is run at stock clocks or risk burning the CPU.

Isnt Nvidia supposed to launch their 480 series soon?
That could also influence the pricing of the card segment you are looking at.
One of my friends got a passive cooled hd5750 for his Phenomen II X4 965, and he seems happy enough.

I've got a 9800gtx (same card as a gts250) with an E8400 and it seems quite balanced. I have overclocked the cpu just for this game however (3.7GHz). Getting 40-60 FPS on medium settings at 1680x1050.Originally posted by LordsethonanWould anybody recommend getting a GTS250 1GB ddr3 ram or a 5750 card for an E8400 at stock clocks? so i guess my e8400 OCed to 3.6 is bottlenecking my gtx260 core 216 sli setup? Ive thought about upgrading my cpu setup to maybe an i5 setup since i7 is stupid expensive.

ok i bumped it up to 3.0ghz the other day and now i'm playing in DX10 mode whereas before i had to play DX9 due to performance issues. in DX10 at least, i'm guessing there was about 10fps gain, which was just enough for me to enjoy it.
