I use it. If it kills.... Why not? Are you kidding me?
Its like you are gaven the option of growing up with a big or a small dick. WILL YOU CHOOSE THE SMALL ONE JUST BECAUSE IT IS SMALLER AND IT REQUIRES MORE SKILL TO HANDLE? NABS.!
Are you guys kidding? isnt it truth???? its the HOLE TRUTH EXPLAINED IN A FEW WORDS:yay:
Guys, you are clearly underestimating the power of smoke, all you have to do is get a buddy with some smoke, put two ammo boxes down and spam smoke somewhere. In essence, instead of killing people, you crash theirs games with smoke, or really annoy them!
Oh and you can use it like a shotgun at close range :)
That shotty is more like an humilliation tool, as it was in 2142 (or is it, will be? gets complicated). more so now with the killcam on. You can use to mean the guy was not worthy of getting his dogtag, since you practically have to shove the damn thing in their mouth.
You'd be surprised how effective that damn 40mm SG attachment is. Now that TRR has a couple of BC2 servers (because I wasn't getting owned hard enough in regular BC2 servers  ) I played with treble318 yesterday and he was raping faces with that thing. I'd see him, I'd die, and I'd see it was another OHK with that damn 40mm shotty. On the other hand, I was entirely incapable of scoring a kill with the LMGs so I stayed medic but went Remington whoring with it and on more than one occasion would fail to drop someone in four damn shots with that thing, with buck, at ~5m. Next time I go assault I'm definitely going to give that underbarrel shotty a whirl.
Regarding the one in BF2142, do you mean the Clark or the underbarrel Herzog? Because the Herzog is a fantastic weapon, especially once you upgrade it to 4 shots. Far more useful to me than being another one of the million PK rocket spammers, especially since I used the Baur a lot and would run out of regular bullets if I had to face more than two people in a row.
I love the noob toob. I actually get kills with it, that along with knives, rpg and c4. Game has ****y hitbox and lag doesn't help, so I go to the easiest method since the game designer forgot to balance bullets vs explosive rounds. I suspect this game will turn out into COD explosive fest in few weeks when people lighten up. It not about skills, it about survival for the fittest in a mediocre hit system.
The thing about the shotguns is that you are dead if the hit doesnt register (or there are more than one opponent). They are simply to slow too reload.
I really liked the Clark in BF2142, but so far only the Saiga seems practical. And that is primarly because of the amount of lead it can put out.

The shotties are black-and-white; they are so satisfying to get a kill with just as they are so frustrating when you get screwed out of a kill by the game. But the former is why I put up with the latter.
As for the semis like the Saiga, they're just not the same. Blowing someone's face off in one click of the button and hearing that 'cha-chik' as you chamber the next shell while walking over their corpse to search for your next victim is one thing I love so much about this game. Semis don't have nearly the same satisfaction factor, since if you miss with one round you can just spam the button again until the guy drops. Didn't care for the spaminess of the DAO in BF2, either, for the same reason. Pump shotties are where it's at for me, even when they let me down and I get owned.

That sales talk makes me want to try them out again. I predict I will end up just as frustrated as the last time.
I like the Saiga and the USAS12, but thats because I like to run around shotgunning like a madman
I just dont see the underbarrel one as a replacement for the noob tube, yesterday I had about two instances where I got at least 5 kills in one noob tube at crowded mcoms

Haha, well like I said the satisfaction of when it works is what allows me to put up with it when it doesn't. It's definitely not for everybody because not everybody gets that same satisfaction out of a pump shotty kill that I do. But bear in mind I've been whoring pump shotties since BF:V, when only one side got them and only on certain maps, and almost NOBODY used it. All the guns in BF:V were so lethal and at such long ranges that to even get into shotgun range in the first place was a task but it was soooo much fun seeing:
Pvt.Wolfgang [Mossberg 500] NVAd00d
in the corner of the screen and having the enemy go 'wtf is a 'Mossberg 500'?!?'. This was before the days of semi-auto shotties and sabot rounds and medics and defibs so surviving with a Mossberg in your hands took guile and a bit of luck. Pump shotties have been my favourite weapon ever since.
the thing i noticed about the tube is that splash dmg isn't as lethal as games like MW. most of the time i'm having to do direct hits to get one shot kills and most of the time if i splash them i just injures them.

It increases greatly when you use the explosives radius perk (don't remember what it's called). My understanding is that it basically makes a single grenade kill anyone in a specific time zone. I've even heard of people that shot a grenade near the edge of the map and was able to kill someone in another server with it. I exaggerate for effect, but a lot of the noobtoobing you see is done by those with the explosives perk.
It's noob tubin on entirely new level when you can resupply yourself with endless ammo. The noob tube has really become a crutch for too many players, yes of course there's truly skilled tubers but for the most part it's people shooting it at the ground point blank. this game does not promote skill enough so much as the fastest easiest kill.
It's definitely unbalanced, either nerf the blast radius or limit the ability for assault class to constantly resupply itself, perhaps some time limit restriction before you rearm from your own ammo crate again.

So, I gave it another try, and I must say: Shotgun + Lightweight = Fun!
Not necessarily pwnage or great K/D, but fun.
