Yeah... I really cant be bothered to post a whole rant about how wrong most of the anti-competition arguments are and Chris has done most of it already.

Kind of a shame, I was talking to some guys about getting a squad rush ladder going on. It seems ultimately pointless not having these options when they have no effect on ranked play at all, leave them as options for server admins.

But yeah, squad rush looked pretty fun competition-wise.

Until people have actually played in clan matches or ladders, I dont think you will understand why you cant just load up 64 guys in a server with all individual unlocks and vanilla unbalances.

Do not forget that there will be Medal of Honor: Battlefield release later this year.

I agree with all others that EA/DICE aren't treating this one as major release and major cash cow. They aren't well prepared for the release, and apparently surprised by its success (on PC).

However, I don't agree that people should ditch this game simply because it's "a console port." Yeah, it is, but, if you want to see BF3 to be epic for PC gamers, you need to pay them money in order for them to continue the work. By being a paying customer, you also earn your right to ***** about the game. If there are enough of us bitching, EA/DICE could have noticed our voice.

The problem is that, sadly, most people never played Battlefield competitively. I know I never got into it, mostly because I didn't have the time to devote to joining a serious clan and whatnot. That's not to say it hasn't been a significant aspect of other BF games, but that they thought they didn't need it for BC2. I wouldn't really classify BC2 as a "console port" but it certainly was designed to be more approachable by all systems, with only more nuanced differences between different versions. That's probably why they left it out.

Hopefully DICE/EA will make BF3 a more PC centric game, though. I wouldn't mind getting into competitions one of these days. :)

        This is very true.
I don't think anyone would or should consider removing competitive support in a game because they think it's a negative thing. I at least hope that wasn't DICE's intentions, but rather they just didn't think it was necessary. Personally, I would rather see a game that is competitively strong without the needs of mods, or at least mods that significantly alter gameplay.

LOL, with the ammount of bitching that TBF2 and TBF2142 had, DICE and EA should have released "THE F**KING GAME OF THE MILLENIA!!!!!!" [<title name]

The 200K petition, hundreds of well-argumented posts, all those topics and all that crying in MW2 ultimately lead to a screwed up game selling more than its nigh perfect predecessor. Talking about irony

Someone somewhere gave a very interesting opinion on the subject. Things like mods, competitive community, tonload of content, all of it extends the longetivity of the game and its not in the best interests of the publisher/developer. Part of the reason why BF2142 didnt surpass BF2 was because BF2142 was released at the time right before the release of a couple of major mods for BF2. A conspiracy theorist might think that theres a pattern to be discovered here. Considering IW got a "no-limit budget" for MW2, I have no doubt similar conditions applied to DICE as BC2 as it was MW2-s biggest planned competitor.

I believe the only reason unlocks were not used competitively was you needed a ranked server which posed a number of problems. Although I haven't confirmed it I believe you keep your unlocks in BC2 when you password protect the server, you just don't gain points towards rank or unlocks. I honestly don't see how you could play BC2 without unlocks as you would be removing half the gameplay. Not sure if I would even play comp if they disallowed unlocks. Also BC2 has symetrical infantry equipment so there would be no balance issues.

The main things needed are a pre round spawn timer and an end of round score screen. Demos are nice to have but rarely that necessary in my experience.

Chris, I'm just saying that the game is less than two weeks old, we have a major connectivity issue related to the unexpected ammount of people trying to log in. There are far more pressing matters like the excess bloom in Russian huds, the DX9 render path making all machinegun emplacements unusable and the random sttutering for sli and crossfire, and some other configurations; that have to be dealt with before even thinking of adding first person record and spectator mode.
I'm not saying it's unneeded, even for the casual, being able to get a battlerecorder review of your matches can help you see what you did, why your tactics were wrong, or some play BF moments fun, but take into account this game being so good out of the box took everybody by surprise.

I bet DICE was really expecting this to sell maybe one million copies in 4 months on each platform, with the majority of players on console, wrap up and call it a day and start working on BF3 but turns out it's a huge game and now what you thought you were going to add in staggered patches you have to do in less than a month or two.

I'm just saying right now competitive support is not important, or not as important as getting the game up and running for everybody first. We still don't have a sizeable portion of the playerbase with all unlocks, so we don't even know what's balanced and what not; maps aren't available in every game mode yet; this game is far from finished.

Wait until medal of honor comes out in the fall...it will have all the competitive support. Now that they have fully done a test run of the frostbite engine on the PC. If none of those options are added, they BC2 competition is going to suck.

It is important, but it is not what drives a game. It is a small community within the game. Casual gamers are what drives the game. Don't hold your breath of dice supporting competitive play...they are probably focusing all of that in medal of honor so that they can compete with cod.

I agree that people who consider this aspect of game is not important for casual gamers due to lack of experience (they dont know what they are missing), but you may have come off a little insulting there, even if you didnt want to. Sex, virgins and videogames is a slippery slope in one single sentence.

Many of you dont realize just how important competitive gameplay is. It drives the whole industry, connects communities, and directly influences the life expectancy of a game because in the times of dedicated servers, its the clans who pay the cash for your playing pleasure. A lot of these clans move to new games with skrims in mind just as much as pubbing.

Competitive gaming is one of the pillarstones for the advancement of the videogame industry. If the industry starts focusing exclusively on the "casual gamer", expect the games quality to fall significantly (MW > MW2).

Out of some strange fear of the unknown, people instantly associate "competitively friendly" with "casually hostile". Thats not the case, not at all, as demonstrated above in the changelist for the BF2 Promod, I bet every single BF2 pub vet would have liked those changes in their game.

And finally, Lordsethonan, releasing a game with so many missing features is inexcusable, especially when youve made fun of your competitor for not giving a flip about the PC community, on and on, constantly rubbing it in, and then releasing a typical EA product.

As always, threads like this turn into one group bashing another for completely irrelevant and wrong reasons.

                                Hm. No comment.

I just have this to say - although I would love to contribute to the TL;DR fest of competitive mods (make games muuuch better IMO, would you want a bunch of guys running around with fast reload, and an explosives perk + grenade launcher in a professional CoD4 match? NO, thats idiotic.) but anyway, I played some 8v8 Rush with what was primarily 6-7 guys in our vent vs. 7-8 guys who were in their clan server.

SO much fun, and very competitive. It just lacks the basic features that are needed like what Redfield said before.
