UAV love

I got to ask this, what do people think of the UAV?

I have flown the apache etc a few times. its fun if you have the copilot to kill with (I never get to bladdy copilot) but the UAV is so much more fun and addicting

A puny little helicopter but you can cause such havoc with it, a blend of cheeky stealth and fiery death.

Brilliant to just swoop in behind some cover, find some campers, pop up behind them and either missile them or even better get them with the MG, or simply finding an enemy squad in a fight and hovering over them MGing them all while they panic. Or flying into a blown out MCOM building and stopping the enemy defusing.

A lot of people seem to ignore it, but its a good laugh to play with and can be very useful, although fragile and somewhat loud (I can tell if its up in the air from the other side of a map lol)

Unfortunately people seems much more UAV-hating in the full game. I barely get any airtime before people start shoting at it, but besides that it is still fun.

But the placement of the controls for "forward" and "up" on each side of the exit button has caused me a bit of grief.

is it me or do others have to check off reverse fly when in UAVs? they are the opposite of choppers (up and down are reversed). i hate having to go into settings to change this depending on whether i fly the UAV or fly the chopper.

Yep. "up" button next to the E button has caused me more crashes than the enemy.

I didn't tested it in the beta, when I was playing the singleplayer I had to config my keys for the UAV. I just flown my first UAV yesterday and 10kills right away, it's really a fun little chopper. But it's hard to spot with it, i smash the spot key and nothing 90% of the time. Unless I'm on infantry map I just target vehicle because if you fire on everything it just draw a lot of attention and you get welcomed by a hail of bullets from M60s.

I had to do it in the Beta, but I think it works OK now. In a chopper I prefer mouse up to mean "nose down", kind of like with a joystick. But when flying the UAV it actually feels more like aiming a gun, so I want mouse up to mean "aim up"

I think it would help if you think of it like being a chopper gunner instead of a chopper pilot. You just have to force you brain to see it the right way.

well it's because i am not used to your way of mouse up - nose down. i'm used to mouse up, nose up and that's how i play the choppers on 2142 which is that way on default. now on BC2, i have to check reverse fly to do it the same way as in 2142 when i fly choppers, but it gets reversed in UAVs which is still a chopper essentially in both how it operates and moves. i can't think of the UAV as a chopper gunner because you still have to fly it.

one question... i did fly the uav a LOT a couple of hours for sure... but ive never fired a machine gun with it :/ is it an unlock? or how to i shoot the mg ???

Its the alt fire unlock in the vehicle tab. The icon looks like three bullets. You fire by right clicking. The UAV also deploys smoke if needed, if you have smoke unlocked in the vehicle tab.

If you fire with the machinegun you're sure to attract all the enemy team

I love the UAV, durin the beta I used it almost every time I played. The machine is awesome too!

i use it from time to time, but it makes you a sitting duck. I have killed many an unsuspecting UAV user. I also like to hunt for them as soon i hear the chopper. It's an easy 100 points for a UAV destruction
