This distrust of digital distribution is downright idiotic. You're afraid that if you buy a game on Steam and Valve goes under that you won't have access to your game anymore?

Well guess what, Valve is a bigger and more successful company than DICE and just as important as EA. If EA/DICE went under you wouldn't be able to play the game either. So I guess your only option now is to not buy the game at all!


Anyway, I paid $49.99+tax on Steam for my copy. Same as in stores. Only now I can download it an play it on any computer I might be at even if I don't have my disc with me. I don't know about you, but I don't like carrying all my DVD around everywhere I go.

I also don't like having to get up and go find my disc every time I want to play and then switch it out if I want to use another disc. It's a waste of time.

2MB mini ISO files, who keeps disks in their DVDROM anyway? You underestimate the importance of a physical copy for a collector. I personally dislike Steam, and I would only consider it for its sick deals. Charging full price for a new game is stupid when digital distribution was supposed to cut those costs in the first place.

Steam isn't a company and I don't know who ED is. I'm saying not buying a game from Steam because Valve could go out of business is not a valid reason, because it's just as likely that DICE/EA could go out of business.

Yes. You're required to have an internet connection to play games through Steam. However, there's not much point playing a multiplayer game without an internet connection. It's not a concern for me, at least. Do you mostly want to play the BC2 singleplayer campaign only?

actually, if you don't have an internet connection, you can start steam in "offline" mode, and play any of your games.

ED was a typo.. it was suppose to be EA. Im not gettiing into the nitty gritty of proof becuase as you know there isnt any, all we are saying is things like this happen and could happen.

We know BFBC2 is mainly a MP game so you can hazzard a guess that 99% ppl buying has internet connection, however referring back to your original comment about having to swap out your dvd every time you want to play the game, I was trying to say that you dont have to because the game plays without the dvd if you online activate it. I think we got our wires crossed lol

I usually always buy hard copies for the soul reason of hard drive failure, but have just recently bought Batman: AA from GFWL as it was reduced, but haven't yet been able to install it after downloading it four times. First and last time I ever buy a digital copy.

It's also better to have a hard copy as you can sell them on.

Digital Distribution: Bad for the soul!

I dont really get the point about harddrive failure. There is no limit on the number of times you can download from steam, and it is possible to back it up to a DVD if you dont want to download the game again for some reason.

Ive been using a miniISO file to keep my DVD from blowing up for years, for BF2. Just because one buys a physical copy, doesnt mean that the negatives associated with its use have to gimp you, they can easily be overcome.
