    why?

can someone tell me why digital copies of BFBC2 are more expensive than hard copies, I thought it would have been the other way round with no distribution costs, no packaging costs and no extra wages to pay..

Because the publishers don't want to piss off the retailers.

I didnt pay more for BC2, unless you are talking in general. The extra cost could be for infrastructure or setup of the game for distribution, but I would think to compete it would need to be the same price.

Steam did say that if they ever went bust they would release all the games that each individual owns and has bought so that they wouldnt need steam to run it. Basically if steam went bust, bad for them, no real change for us.

People say that all of the time, but no one is ever able to provide a link proving it.

The only thing I've ever seen is that Valve believe that you don't actually own jack **** when you buy licenses for games from them. That's why they're able to disable your Steam account at any time for any reason. That's how they hold all of your other games hostage if you threaten to process a chargeback for one of them on your credit card.

Im almost positive that it states in the terms of service that if they go BUST then our games are not at risk, however unless that happens we simply own the licenses to play the game which is how they get away with putting our games at risk with the chargeback idea.

Well, I have seen that stated a lot of times, but I cant find a source for it.
It is also worth considering that Valve does not own the rights to all games on Steam. They cant just unlock the BF series and have everybody play it for free.

I believe he means that anyone who has bought the license can then play the game without the steam client running. So it would be no different than say D2d or any other electronic copy of a game.

Sure, steam might one day go under, but right now, it's booming. Also, it's no different than if DICE/ EA went under, then you can't play any BF games because you need the EA authentication server. You just have to hope that should the company go bust, they set things so you can still enjoy your rightfully bought game. In steams case, I believe it's in their ToS that should the company bust, they will make your licensed games available, they won't disappear.

If that fails you can always pirate it....

Where is here? That's insane. In the U.S., limited and steam edition are both $50 USD.... at least they were for me when I pre-ordered.

Steam is the ultimate destination for playing, discussing, and creating games.

I think the loss of TF2 will create a more visible, if not outright violent, reaction on TGN.

I think TheEliminator is using his local currency (WombatDollars).
In the EU its €50, that around $70 (YankeeDollars)

What I meant was that since MW2 can only be played by running it through Steam, if they go bust, no one will be able to play it, right?

I think so, but there will also be negative consequences, let us not forget that.
