So you're answer to my questions is that you merely derive pleasure from debating multiple issues with the game even though you never plan to play it and don't intend to see an results from your debating.
Your interest in debating in the BC2 forums just seems extremely unusual to me.
Dude, just chill. What's wrong with discussion for the sake of discussion? Its kind of the point of a forum. No one is making you respond to every post.
You were very likely to have flown against people with similar or lower skillset. And you said you were playing with alternate accounts. You pretty much confirmed that you require experience to perform well.
I do agree that it takes a certain amount of skill to be good in the chopper. To be able to fly, fire all of the weapons, and to have battlefield awareness (very important). But after a while, I think players will plateau. For me, it took me a while to learn to fly as I sucked at flying choppers in BF Vietnam.
But the TVGM isn't hard to use for ground targets (except maybe DPV/Jeeps). Hitting choppers can be hard, especially if the other chopper is evading). But for ground targets, there is little you can do about a chopper that is high in the sky shooting down a TVGM of death.
The best fix for soloing is not through limitations which gimp the experience, but through additional value given by the copilot without gimping the choppers survivability.
I hear what you are saying. But maybe the way to fix this is to get rid of the TVGM? If you made each position about as effective in terms of firepower, that would help balance out. The one thing you don't want is for choppers to not be afraid of other choppers. The TVGM was the reason why you should be looking out for other choppers first, before you concentrate on ground targets.
I dont, many dont actually. Facing a chopper crew consisting of two equally skilled players, knowing that if you were alone you could beat them, but being gimped by a person shooting cannons at tanks while youre facing a situation where youll be taken down with the first TVGM- that adds a lot to the Battlefield experience.
I know it can be frustrating, but that's gaming. The same can be said for teams in general. If I am in that situation, I wouldn't fly and maybe try to find another way to combat the enemy chopper.
Honestly, I thought the concept of a TVGM is awesome. Its only overpowered because noone knew how skilled people could become at it, or how a rise in macro use could overly simplify it (even though it just brings it to BF2142 level).
Agreed. At first, it was cool and a challenge to learn. But once you learn it, you have to admit, it's fairly easy to take out most ground targets with it. This is why I wouldn't mind keeping it, but reduce it's damage (especially to tanks). That way, the gunner and pilot would have to work more together and it gives the ground players a better chance to survive.
Unfortunately youre forgetting the human factor. Only thing which makes the game unbalanced is people stacking up.
The human factor is the biggest factor in unbalancing a game. I know there is no way to really make it fair every game. This is something DICE can't control. What they can control is the game itself. That being said, the game is more balanced now, than in the past. The AA is working much better and choppers aren't as deadly (reduced armor and shorter TV missle distances). The only thing that is really stupid are the jets influence and especially the bomber.
Same name as on the forums?
My original account is "cwv_odedge", my current one is just "Odedge".
Making sure that a high-impact vehicle which was fun to use, was countered with another high-impact vehicle, equally fun to use, will create necessary balance both in skill, aswell as the "Rock-Paper-Scissor" type of balance DICE kept talking about.
In some maps, I don't mind jets at all (can you say Fushee Pass). They are fighters, they map is huge and hilly. I rarely get killed by them. When I do, it's not a big deal. Each vehicle needs to play a role. A jet for example should be worried mainly about other jets and choppers. After than, maybe armor. The more it can effect smaller targets and those smaller targets can't fight back effectively, the more resentment you will have from the majority of players as the majority of the players will always be on the ground.
As an infantry troop, one of the regular Battlefield moments in BF2 was knowing and anticipating the incoming bomber and warning your squad. One of the most rewarding part of it was when some poor bloke ignored the warning and asked me how I knew. Fear of death makes you adapt, so to speak. You should not be scared of the person in the vehicle, but the vehicle itsself. Thats what the Battlefield moment is about.
Good point, which is one of the reason for me learning how to fly jets "good enough". I think one of the things that makes me a good BF player is my battlefield awareness. As it stands, I don't get killed by the TVGM while on the ground that much, because of my chopper awareness.
Yeah, Point of Existence 2. I assume you used to play in the TacticalGamers.com server?
I probably played on that server as I did others. I wasn't a total POE2 die hard, but it was a very nice change of pace to vBF2. They did a great job with that mod.
I appreciate your point of view on this subject as you back up your comments with intelligent thoughts. Being a team player and especially having people to play with consistently, I want the game to be more team oriented. I just picked up BC 2 and will be playing this weekend.
I would tend to agree with your position more if DICE didn't make the game so "teamwork" friendly. With the addition of squads and VOIP, it's easier to work with total strangers compared to other games I play. If it didn't have these features, I would probably be more for soloing...
