Get at least a gigabyte of ram, you are running a 64-bit OS with the bare minimum RAm to operate, BF2142 needs one gig for itself.

Looks to me like the program tries to use Vram through the hard drive, and slows down to a halt.

Try turning off any anti-virus that you may have running. I was having the same problem and turned mine off for kicks and it worked for me.

Do you have the latest patch installed? BF2 was doing the same thing to me when I tried running it after I got my widescreen monitor. After they patched the game to allow widescreen, it worked.

yea it sounds like it could be a monitor res/refresh rate issue. check your cfg file to see if it is currently set at something your monitor cannot display.

Make sure you have "+widescreen 1" in your command line of icon you use.

The other is "administrator mode." Make sure it's run in administrator mode for punkbuster.

I think I had this problem as well, alas I forgot what I did. Just try reinstalling patches, something is bound to work.

What about setting the game to run as administrator also?

Run as admin and setting the game to run as administrator are not the same thing. Also what patches did you install?

Did you look through some of the sticky posts in this thread? I remember when 2142 first came out this happened if you had a realtek onboard soundcard. Updating your sound drivers fixed the issue. You have that hardware? Did you find your config file?

Had the same problem on my win7 64, this is how i solved it:
                              1. uninstall
                              2. reinstall 1.0 from DVD (use setup.exe not autorun and run it as admin)
                              3. reboot comp
                              4. patch 1.2 full as admin
                              5. reboot
                              6. patch 1.4 full
                              7. reboot
                              8. patch 1.5 full
                              9. reboot

After that the game was asking for the correct DVD until i unchecked "run in compability mode" and unchecked "run as admin".

This is what did it for me, good luck.
