It's probably something small which will be in the full version, remember, beta etc etc.

I also have some strange issues with the squad only chat, when I'm in a vehicle I can't use squad only.
When I push the button, just nothing happens... :S I also had that all the chat in-game was not appearing on screen, you just typed something and pressed enter and then there was nothing.
I was playing with a friend that time and he also had that problem.

Chatting when dead not so much of an issue as compared to how fast the chat text disappears and you cant use PgUp & PgDn to scroll through it, the console had its use for that in BF2.

You couldn't use voice chat when you were dead in the first BC. I'm guessing this will remain for the full version. Dead men tell no tales.

also, if you die when the game is over, you can't say "gg" or anything.

I agree it is annoying, when I'm dead seems like the only time to communicate anything because i'm too busy running and gunning while alive.

the thing I find annoying is that most of the time I have to press J, K or L about 5 god dam times just to open the chat line, gets very frustrating

But I don't think it's a bug. I think it's 100% intentional. If you could type/talk while dead, while watching the killcam-thingie, it would make it easier for you to tell your squad exactly where the guy is. So if the guy ran to hide right after killing you, you can't warn your squad.

You also have to wait until you spawn before you can type, so you have a timeout before you can talk smack. Unless you spawn in a safe place, you probably won't want to sit there and type unless there is a damned good reason to do so.

So there ends up being less type-spam.

My squad didn't hear me over VoIP while I was dead. Well, the ones in Ventrillo could, but the guys in-game said they couldn't.
