    Widescreen Support is Cheating. WHAT!?

Well PC BFBC2 FOV is locked at 60 which isnt considered a Widescreen Field of View. DICE made the decision due to balance reasons yet they fail to understand that PC gaming can never be balanced unless everyone has the same internet connection, same rig and screen with the same performance.

Cheers DICE for not jumping into the modern times. Idiots >.>

However given we are doing a PC Beta for PC Players if you play and disagree I want to hear from you. Try it on PC first please.
Was posted further up. So im hoping they are keeping an open mind on the FoV and might be willing to change it.

It wont happen everyone would be against the FOV idea and they will keep it anyway.

This makes me sad. I can deal with 75 but lower and you get dizzy after a while... I know I'm not alone with this.

Why not raise the FOV to 80 or something at all resolutions if they necessarily have to keep it so restricted? Geez... well I hope they listen to the beta players.

Either I'm blind or you are making stuff up in your head. Wide-screen is supported from what I have read elsewhere and read nothing about it being a way to cheat. Wides-screen is supported on consoles with the same settings as the PC version. Also, 60 FOV on one game engine can be and usually is different from another.

Where did you get the number 60 from? Didn't find anything about it on his twitter. I sent him a question asking how similar the fov is to the console fov, since numbers are so different for different engines.

He got it from twitter, from demize99. He said that its fine and we have to test it in PC beta, And he also said that different fov creates balance issue. Lame excuses, but the fact is I cant play games with fov lower than 75.

Yea but I can't find any numbers there. From the link minmaster posted the vertical fov is 55 which is better than many other games like HL2 or Bioshock for example.

Re: Widescreen Support is Cheating. WHAT!?

I really, *really* don't get this argument.

I've been a quake 3 and UT99/2k4 player for years, and have played at 110 FOV for as long as I can remember. Anything else just looks cramped to me.

Anyone that played these games and actually messed around with FOV's know one basic thing that invalidates DICE's entire argument concerning balance:

High FOV means you see more to the sides, yet it also means you'll have a harder time aiming at people, especially when they are far away. High FOV squashes the screen in the middle so that anyone that is 10 meters away will look at least 15 or 20 meters away.

Conversely, a low FOV makes for lower situational awareness and more unnecessary mouselooking around (which tends to dizzy me), but makes aiming tons easier on long range.

That's all there is to it.
You either go for wide vision, easier close range and much harder long range, or you go for narrow vision, easy sniping and harder close range. Most players will pick something somewhere in the middle.

There is no balance issue involved *at all*.

Even disregarding this, 60FOV is just too low. It's tunnel vision.
Just as a fun experiment, take an A4 paper, on its side, and let's say that this is your viewport.
Hold it roughly 20cm (7.5 inches) in front of your eyes.
THAT, my friends, is what 60 degrees of vision looks like in real life...

A human eye has nearly 180 degrees of horizontal field of view. I fully realize that displaying games in 180 degrees FOV is just too much, but even with 88-90 FOV on a widescreen monitor, you're cutting away more than half of your real vision range.

This is indeed the VERTICAL fov of 55, NOT horizontal.

...which in turns means that the fov will scale accordingly for widescreen resolutions, for those wondering.

And amen DarQraven, I play with 120 FOV in QL and change it to that in every game possible pretty much, but I can live with lower.

Understood. Still, that amounts to around 75 horizontal for 4:3 users and 88 horizontal for 16:10 screens.
Again, the A4 paper test is in order, but now hold it 15cm from your eyes (5.6 inches). The very fact that you can look around the paper without moving your eyes should be telling.

90 Degrees horizontal was the standard FOV back when 4:3 monitors were still standard.
I don't know what suddenly inspired developers worldwide to give their games stupidly narrow vision and adapt 75 or lower as standard 4:3 FOV, but I sure as hell don't agree with it. We're getting the old 4:3 FOV on widescreen monitors and 4:3 users get shafted even more.

There simply isn't any reason NOT to support unlocked FOV.
