    Leagues, Teams, Recruiting

So i have a few questions and hoping to get a good thread rolling

first off i'm coming from an extensive competitive gaming back ground in CS 1.6 cal-p, cevo-main, esea and a few season of dod cal-m,

So if the game is suitable for competitive play which league would pick it up?
If the game really is suitable for competitive play the community could make a push to get it into CEVO which sorry to TWL and some of those other little leagues, CEVO is superior.

And teams from BF2, who was the best?
I'm not quite sure how teams work in bf/bf2 because in CS you don't run a pub and play competitively (scrims/league)
so are there teams that played in bf2 that didn't pub?

and IRC channels does BF have one where all the good players or scrims or clans idle?

Also i'd like to find allot of this out so i can find a good team for me and my cousin who would love to paly competitive bfbc2 if it's suitable

ESL, and CEVO will pick it up definitely as a ton of pro teams are coming back and playing the game as i have spoken with most of them. the team i am on will be playing it competitively as well.

In bf2 if you were competitive....then you didnt run a pub nor did you play in a pub cause in the competitive world pubbing is considered a no no cause it causes bad habits.

I am sure there are some IRC channels like that but mostly its what teams you know.

Yea I'll be looking for one... no CAL ladders obviously lol. But yea I can see ESL and CEVO picking it up.

I wasn't even aware there was anyone that was paid to play BF2? I find this hard to be true.

and thats what i need to do.. hehe, get to know the good players, where is a good place to start?

this sucks because the CS community and BF community have nothing to do with one another.. so it's a tough jump over, it's like starting new, i know 0 people that play BF's. whoever picks me up would not be sorry:p

And who are some of the "pro" teams?

          Re: Leagues, Teams, Recruiting

I am very interested in this topic as well. I have been looking around for the past few days and all i found was dead BF2 / BF2142 communities. I have been waiting on starcraft 2 for a couple of years now meanwhile playing starcraft broodwar, but that **** is taking forever also my true skills are still with fps games.

Anyone that can link me to an active highly competitive BF community ?

Mod Tools: There will not be mod tools for BFBC2. However a majority of the the games logic is controlled by the server and there will be Serverside control options for the dedicated servers.
Public Server Files: We will not distribute these publicly. There are many factors for why we have decided this with the biggest factor being security & integrity of our game & Dedicated Servers.
This kinda ****s hardcore with "pro/competitive gaming", look at CoDMW2 - 0 ****ing leagues or anything. So as for now I don't see much future in this game for the pro gaming scene as much as id liked to.

i agree with you ziph.. but i think DICE will smarten up.. if the community pushes hard enough that is
there has been no NEW(last.. 5 years) PC games introduced to a high competitive level.. CS 1.6, CS:S, Q3,SC/BW, WoWpvp are the only games to reach a height.. I was also hoping bfbc2 would be a hit..as i played cs for 5 years i've gotten more then bored with it

then again flying a BFBC2 team of 8? guys to a LAN is pricey .. so it's hard for BF games to reach more then pub status..

              Re: Leagues, Teams, Recruiting

I don't think plane ticket prices will have to do with anything haha. But I also played CS and CSS since the betas... and I just stopped playing a few months ago, it just got boring... but somehow I doubt BC2 will reach the level of comp play that CS had (culminating in CGS, even though that was probably a bad thing for the community...)but it could get... somewhere.

I see this being much more of a more casual 8v8 or 5v5 ladder type game, with a bunch of leagues being run that resemble TWL or OGL. Just for a more concentrated fun than you would find in a public server, not really for a chance to go professional.

Also, when you talk about the "no public server files and no mod tools" issue, there is a lot that isn't being said here. When they say no public server files are being released I'm pretty sure that means the only games you'll be allowed to play "ranked" will be specifically on these public servers (probably being run by DICE or EA). Although they never said that just regular server files won't be being released to the public. They also haven't told us what kind of choices they're giving us in terms of editing gameplay in terms of server side options. So, at this point who knows, and for some reason I seem to remember that DICE didn't release public server files for BF2 at first either? Not sure about that...

And I really don't think there was ever a "professional" BF2 community. Just one that liked to team up and play the game a bit smarter against better competition, and TBH the gameplay of BF2 wasn't up to a professional par... as fun as it was, I couldn't see people playing the game for money just because of how spotty the gameplay was sometimes.

              My 2 cents haha.

EDIT: And if you're looking to start a team, when the game comes out shoot me a message... I would be glad to play.

Cant really tell if the game will have any Comp style play until after it comes out. I already am watching it closely and hoping it does have some sort of Comp Level Play. If so TGL will most likely be running a few leagues with it.....

On the TWL forums they are wanting admins to run TWL BFBC2 Leagues.

Idk what you are talking about but sponsors will take care of the plane tickets...our sponsors did when going to the CPL events. As long as you are winning sponsors dont care and will send 8 playeres no problem. BF reached way more than pub status.

As to the no mod tools....um when BF2 first came out all teams had to run matches and scrims vanilla so that wont be a problem. Eventually though dice will give us mod tools for competition but i dont think it will be a problem without them.

                      Re: Leagues, Teams, Recruiting

0Zero, I mean sponsors are less inclined to send 8 guys then say 1 or 2 for games like starcraft and other 1v1 games. but yeah i would've flown down myself to cpl had i the right team and was playing at the time(s). what game did you play at the CPL? and what i meant about BF is that it didn't have longevity.. kinda how painkiller, doom3 and q4 were all played different CPLs. BF didn't stay popular long enough to gain a big following to be internationally competitive, i hope that bfbc2 can or bf3... as the FPS community needs a game that can rise to the occasion

also, since 0Zero you seem to be involved competitively with bf games, where can i start because i'm quite a skilled player and i'd love to get involved in playing bfbc2... i knows it's all about who you know.. but someones gotta start somewhere..

It would also help if we can start up mIRC chans for finding players/recruiting and finding scrims and what not, like we do in CS. I
know we could make this game big it's just going to take people willing to get other players set up to find teams and a community that knows what it's doing because if there is no backbone it will just be a game that is popular for six months to a year and then dwindle down to the people who can't let BF go for the next shiny game

yeah thats cause dice killed bf2 with that 3.0 patch. I mean i just hope this game competitively stays alive for 1 year so that i dont have to wait in between games for bf3 haha.

They did say no public server files for security reasons

Yes, server rentals are available through our partners and on our dedicated servers. Won't release the server code.

I will look into the PB Streaming & understand the concern, but no promises other than that. And no public files for both Beta & Retail.

And the latest is no developer console.

i understand they think taking away a dev console will stop players from using commands to gain and edge.. but there are some commands that need to be edited.. like rates to the server to help registry and FOV among other things
