Odd New Error when joining a game - Mouse and Keyboard do not respond

All,

I've been playing BF2 since 2005 and just tried to play it tonight and got this really wierd error. My mouse and keyboard work fine in windows and when I'm in the main BF2 screen selecting a server to join but once I join a server the main screen comes up to pick a kit and join, my mouse and keyboard become totally unresponsive.

The mouse curor just sits dead and I can't move it to select a kit and join a screen. My keyboard doesn't work either. I've done nothing new to my computer at all (windows update, etc) any idea what's causing this?

If I remember correctly, try resetting all your controls to default in the bf2 menu.
