i chose hardened. since i don't want to zip past the precious story mode so quickly. after hearing from everyone it's so short, i think hardened will make it last a little bit longer.

Re: what difficulty level are you starting your single player campaign
I went hardened...until i kept dieing over and over and over and over again.
IT came to the point where i was about to burn it in the oven, so i switch to regular, I will change back to hardened when i complete the game and do it again.

yea but dying over and over again will make the single player mode last longer. we need to get our money's worth, man!
and i'm not a fan of the "play it again" with higher difficulty because once you beat the game, the mystery and suspense is gone and everything is spoiled. the first MW, i beat it once and never tried to beat it again afterwards. playing with higher difficulty will just make it a chore and give you rage from dying so much.

Artificially inflating game play time?
Bah.
The only difference between the difficulties is how many grenades they throw and how good their wallhacks/aimbots are.

I understand where you are coming form mini.
But when i do the story again it won't be for the "suspense" it will be to prove myself that I can do it. Which i will do once I feel i need to.
However when i pay for FPS's i am mostly paying for multiplayer in my opinion. I mean you are going to play SP over and over again, but yo do with multiplayer.
EDIT:
very true, you shouldn't need to turn it up for a decent amount of playtime, the difficaulty there is for more experienced players to not have a joy ride through pwning eveyone.Artificially inflating game play time?

Having to do the same scripted sequence again and again and again and... until you have memorized everything will just make me drop the SP campaign and move directly to MP. So that would be less money's worth for me.Originally posted by Minmasteryea but dying over and over again will make the single player mode last longer. we need to get our money's worth, man!
I prefer the skill levels to be so that I just make it through (or fail).
SP is basically an interactive movie, there is much joy in atching each scene 60 times before you move on to the next.
So if I get the game, SP will be on regular.

Re: what difficulty level are you starting your single player campaign
I play on Regular or Recruit/Easy. Single player is for the storyline for me. If I want a challenge, I play against other people. I learned back in the Nintendo days that a harder difficulty just means the AI cheats more. They can't make them "smarter." So they just have them snap to your left eye and shoot sooner, or have cooked grenades waiting for you at half of the corners you come to.

It is very tough, obviously not like the last difficulty but it is a hefty challenge.Originally posted by Minmasteryea but most of us are experienced FPS'ers, is hardened that tough for us?
I think of single player as a tut for multi, of course you don't have the tactics but you do learn how to utilise cover more (which i have found).

Re: what difficulty level are you starting your single player campaign
It isn't hard, it just takes longer. Just because I CAN beat games on hard difficulty doesn't mean it's fun to do so. I beat Halo 2 on Legendary because some butthole in my unit claimed it would unlock a multiplayer map. I found out later that Foundation would have unlocked even if I beat the damned thing on easy. Then I went home from the desert and never played Halo 2 again...
But I digress. The point is: setting a harder difficulty only makes the game take longer, it doesn't make it more fun at all. Normal is usually the most balanced for the weapons in games.

Even on Regular there's some difficulties. The enemies have some freaking good RPG aim and the snipers have expert aim also. I was sprinting passed an alley and got sniped as I ran past it then one enemy waiting for me killed me on his first bullet. The snipers go for the neck or something .

I said hardened simply because it can be a good challenge sometimes :)

Re: what difficulty level are you starting your single player campaign
I finished CoD4 on Veteran and didn't it find it too hard, but you need to memorize where the enemies are spawning in for the entire level to make it through which is really annoying. I've heard MW2 has a bit more evil enemy spawns so that would probably be even more tedious.
