Realistic gameplay is slow, it doesnt require speed, precision and thinking on a whole new level.
I've been playing UT since 2000 on a very high level to say the least, you don't need to teach me what skill is. In fact, your definition of skill seems to be flawed.

My last question hasn't been answered, are there any leagues left apart from ESL?

If youve been playing UT "on a very high level", then how can you say that realistic games require the same ammount of skill as "unrealistic" ones (talking about fast paced shooters like Quake and UT)?

The purest proof is the level of exhaustion after a game. Sorry, but I have to doubt about your claim that youve played on a high level.

Youre 3 years late. You should try checking out ClanBase, maybe they have something, but generally BF2 competitive scene withered to nothing in just 2 years.

I'd say a flight simulator is x times harder than flying around with a jet in BF2.

You can doubt it as much as you want, if you are really so desperate you may create an account on CB and I'll let you know who I am. Though, it doesn't really matter. Just because you or me are good in a game doesn't mean we are right in our assertion. The facts matter, though, this is a very subjective discourse as it seems.
Fast paced games may be hard for you but I've grown up with 'em, so, I am not exhausted at all. As I said previously, it takes a different skill but it doesn't mean one or another is more difficult resp. takes more skill to master.

Bummer. Did check CB but even the UT league is bigger than BF2 there..

I played Lock On for 4 months, most of it was played 1 vs 1 dogfights with cannons only, sometimes with Sidewinders (close range heatseeking missiles) aswell. At the same time, I was really into BF2 dogfights and BF2 dogfights are a lot more demanding. Yes, LOMAC has a lot of functions, but BF2 is a lot faster, you have to make a lot more decisions and in a sense is a lot more "active". So BF2 requires more skill to beat your opponent.

I am not desperate, but you could use the PM function and give me a rundown on your gaming achievements, because quite honestly, I dont believe you.

I was good at SWAT4, a faster paced realistic close quarters shooter and I also played a lot of Ghost Recon games. Then theres ArmA and of course Battlefield 2 modification called "Project Reality" (which Im sure you would really like, try it out). On the same note, Quake, Quake Wars, UT, Team Fortress and Call of Duty 4 require a lot more from a player than any realistic shooter. The most obvious comparison can be drawn between Call of Duty 4-s "hardcore mode" which brings more realistic traits into the gameplay.

The arcade shooters actions, requirement for aim, thinking and outsmarting your opponent are kind of like "condensed". Youre required to do a lot more in the same timeframe than you would be in a realistic shooter. Even as simple things as factual comparisons prove it.

Twitch, twitch, bunnyhop, dolphin dive, shoot, shoot = ****ing boring in my book, but then I suppose that's just me. Can't understand why anyone would like that crap, but then I suppose that's just me.

On the other hand, videogames should never all be "realistic, because they have to". Now that would be boring. A lot of people associate videogames with replication of real life/events or roleplaying and in their eyes most videogames which put you in direct control of a character, should be realistic enough to not to break the immersion. Most of those people are older gamers, past their 30-s. If the game happens to be not in first person, then those same people usually dont mind the artistic and creative freedom.

Condensed action has its benefits. I like to wear out my keyboard and mouse. Walking around for 15 minutes, only to get one-shot-killed doesnt quite have the entertainment value for me. For most players, the entertainment comes directly from hectic, demanding, fast and almost overwhelming action that requires the player to perform actions on his/her keyboard/mouse close to their pysical limit. The interaction is not bound by realism but is all simply about the fun factor.

                        -

On another note, you cant have more than 64 players on a server. A couple of communities experimented with 128 players, but it never worked. Couldnt get past 64. DICE hardcoded a lot of features.

The most exhausting game for me has been times in Microsoft flight simulator.

I think you are only talking about one type of skill, pressing keys and moving a mouse vs tactical skill, its different.

You can argue all you want but saying realism removes skill is not correct. There are different types of skill and different levels or realism.

There was an official "EA BIG" server around the beginning of the game which held 128 players on wake island.

Wasn't official, not by a long way. People managed to get 128 player servers showing, some over 200. But, they would crash very quickly and it was put down to engine limitations. That's why the project was shelved and it's not really discussed any more.
