    Game Choices - Your Opinion

Hello all! My wife and I are both gamers and with the holiday season coming up, it will be time for more games, but, I have about $45.00 worth of Best Buy reward zone points to use aka a $60.00 game would only be $15.00 before taxes. I saw that Heady said that you can buy 3 games and get the cheapest free at Best Buy (I assume that is just for this week, but I'm not sure if I can use my reward zone points + get that deal), so anyway, what's your pick of those below? I'm going for the best games here, so even though she may not play Fifa 10, she won't lol, if it's good enough I will still get it.

    Games I'm considering:
    -Borderlands
    -Fallout 3
    -Fifa 10
    -Uncharted 2
    -Brutal Legend
    -InFamous
-Other (We're mainly considering these, but maybe there is one I haven't mentioned you're thinking of)

    PS3 Games We Already Own:
    -Fight Night Round 4
    -Little Big Planet
    -Rock Band 2
    -Guitar Hero World Tour
    -Grand Theft Auto 4
    -Eternal Sonata
    -Prince of Persia
    -Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
-Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction

Now, All of those are games that we would both enjoy watching/playing for one or the other (most likely me playing) except Fifa 10, that is purely for me lol. She's an RPG nut (LOVES and has ever Final Fantasy game out...ever) and I'm an FPS person by nature, but I also like sports, adventure, racing, etc), but usually RPG is not my deal. Fallout 3 and Borderlands look like ones that have enough FPS in it for me, and enough RPG for her, maybe...

Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend look like good adventure games (my wife and I loved playing MGS4), but I wasn't sure how many hours of SP we would get out of either of those games.

If that deal for Best Buy works WITH my reward zone points, should since those are like cash, I will maybe get the top 3 picks.

I know this is a long post, but it may help some others out if they're considering some of these purchase decisions also. Thank you!

Re: Game Choices - Your Opinion

Uncharted 2 - I've not completed it, only had time to play a bit, but my bro has and he says it's longer then Uncharted 1... It'd probably take about 14 hours to complete, but it really depends on what type of gamer you are - some people in Uncharted tend to look around everywhere, searching for items or just looking around at the beautiful level design... UC2 is sort of like Tomb Raider, but not as much "aerobatics" and more bad guys to kill... you can stealth kill bad guys which you'll have to do for a few parts... It's a great game, and well worth the purchase. Plus if you enjoyed National Treasure or the other movie then you'll enjoy UC 1/2.

I have Fallout 3 on PC, and my bro got it on PS3 ages ago. I personally prefer in on the PC because it's got better graphics, mods, and partly because "it's like an FPS and FPS games are much better on PC" - I'm not normally into RPG style games, I've played Final Fantasy VII for about 20 minutes and that's it... I didn't like Final Fantasy back then because you had to take turns when fighting... Fallout 3 - you just go up and shoot stuff (or get shot at), but it's got the line-by-line dialogs which are mainly narrated (except for your own responses), which is ok... I've not played enough of Fallout 3, it's a pretty long game with all the side stories you can do, which is what I've mainly been working on before going onto the main parts. You probably won't complete this game for a month or so with solid playing...

I'm not sure what else I would suggest buying... WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2010 just came out, Tekken 6 too... Need for Speed SHIFT has been out for a bit and it seems like a pretty decent driving game (until Gran Turismo 5 is out)

I played the Brutal Legend demo briefly and didn't like it though that's just personal opinion really...

I notice you haven't got Batman Arkam Asylum on your list?! You need to get this game, and get it on PS3 - as you'll get to play as the Joker for the Challenge arena levels...

Of that list I've only played U2 and inFamous. If you're looking to get the most out of your money I say rent both of them. You'd probably need to rent inFamous twice to complete the game on the good and bad sides. Fallout 3 would definitely have more gameplay hours than either of them. inFamous has no multiplayer but a longer single player with free-roaming and stuff to collect.

I would also have to recommend Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. It's also getting great reviews, I see you got the first one (Quest for Booty too?); but unfortunately if you see this by tonight and buy these games from BestBuy.com, the deal is not valid for pre-orders (which technically ACIT would still be).

I guess my recommendations based on monetary value to hours gameplay would be Fallout 3, Fifa 10, and Brutal Legend.

Thank you for the responses Dan!

I just happened to see on Best Buy that Fallout 3 GOTY edition just came out on the 13th and it features all 5 add on packs for the $59.99 price tag! You can get the regular game for $35.99. I hear you on the PC aspect, but my ONLY reason for getting it on the PS3 over the PC is that my wife will be watching and joining in with strategies, choices, etc and it's much easier in the living room with the 46" LED than in my small office at the computer desk lol. But agreed with you.

I just can't deny all the positive praise that Uncharted 2 is getting. While 14 hours isn't a ton of time, I guess Fallout 3 could always make up for the shorter hours of Uncharted 2. So that is a definite maybe if I do get Fallout 3 GOTY which I probably am now.

Yeah, Brutal Legend is one that I know my wife and I were laughing at and also I loved the music in the game. ^_^ But it's somewhat on the fence. Not sure how many hours I'll get out of that one. But, it's nice to have a game to laugh at, and one where you enjoy the music. Not every game has to be hardcore gameage.

Okay, so the Batman one I HAD considered when it was coming out, I just didn't know how much I would actually play it. I mean, I enjoyed the demo, but some things seemed to be too easy I guess you would say? Like the press this button now type of thing. I know people have said it was pretty good though. I twill ponder that one.

I had thought about NFS:Shift, but I'm not in the mood for racing at this time, and the demo was okay. Not really wanting a wrestling or fighting game either. I actually have FNR4 which I really enjoy for my fighting, I've just taken a slight break from it.

Thank you Dan for your post! +rep as I'm sure that could help some others out in my position also.

Uncharted 2 is by far one of the best games I've ever played. Hands down. Make that a purchase no matter what.

Word on InFamous, U2, and Fallout 3. Another confirming reason for Fallout 3 to be one of the game.

My wife has Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, but that's it, she does not have the Quest for Booty one, is it good? I've heard the new R&C is getting good reviews also. We were planning on going to Best Buy Tuesday night, which is now officially Tuesday here.

I like your 3 choices. The one thing about Fifa 10 is I wish the game had a little more 'energy' as far as the atmosphere goes. Like if Fifa WC 06, I felt the huge crowd around me, and the intensity. I wonder when Fifa 10 World Cup comes out...

+rep also, thanks for the answers!

Jes, I keep hearing that, BUT, here is the thing. I planned on bringing back some games tomorrow for trade-in cash at a place, and I think I'm going to bring back MGS4. I never thought I would, but in all honesty, am I ever going to play it again? Am I just keeping it as a trophy on my shelf? A GREAT game, but will Uncharted 2 just become the same? Should I just rent it, enjoy the great SP experience I've heard about (maybe 2 weeks of rentals) and then save $50.00 instead of buying it only to exchange it for cash/store credit when I'm done?

I'm almost don't want to get rid of MGS4, but if I'm not going to play it ever again (which I pretty much never play SP games like that once I beat them), why keep it? And that's just where I somewhat see U2, but I definitely want to play it also. Am I making any sense or just rambling? :p

Re: Game Choices - Your Opinion

UC2 has MP, although I've not tried it yet... it seems to be similar to the MGS4 MP...

I'm not sure if UC2 is getting any DLC, haven't checked...

I think once you complete UC2, you'll probably go through and check out the MP, after that you'll probably want to play it again, as it has a lot of stuff to unlock (most of it can't be unlocked/bought until you've completed the game) - but you could turn on the stuff like Sepia toning, or no gravity, or infinite bullets etc. (after you 'unlock them' by purchasing them) :) You gain more money if you get more headshots or shoot bad guys with grenades in there hand (making them drop it so it explodes and kills them)

The Batman story is great, although it's not that long, it's still great to play Batman :) You can turn up the difficulty or turn off the "press r2 now" popup stuff if you don't want it to be "too easy" - Although I probably wouldn't suggest running it on hard mode right away unless you play the Challenge maps to get used to doing the combos... The combos in Batman are so easy once you get the hang of it, and you can really get it up to like a 20x multiplier in some parts of the story... more for the insane challenge map (infinite amount of bad guys, you just have to keep knocking them out)

As you play through Batman, there is lots of hidden things in each area - there's the message you get when you enter a new area and that message is written like a puzzle, you solve it by figuring out what the puzzle is talking about... For example one of them was something like "Don't cut yourself on this painting" - It was the first message... and the painting you had to find and examine was that of Warden Sharp - Get it?

But, I think once you've completed Batman, and played through all the Challenge maps, and played through the Joker ones, you'll probably want to trade it in... unless you're a fan of Batman... I guess you could always challenge your wife to the Challenge maps? E.g. the stealth ones where you need to kill everyone as fast as possible using stealth... you could do it and get like 40 seconds, then she could do it and get like 38 seconds :p

The graphics are really good in Batman too... the cut scenes are awesome...

                  Nice joke... >_< :p

I'm leaning towards getting Fifa 10, Fallout 3 GOTY Edition, and ...

Third choice is still open. I really think I'd like Brutal Legend as the demo was fun for both my wife and I, but as I've read from some reviews, the SP is quite short and might be better for a weekend rent to beat if you're not going to play the MP, which I doubt I would. The DLC coming to it in Nov is going to be MP based also.

So I'm probably getting the games tonight, so I guess I should make up my mind. :p I might however get Fifa 10 only tonight and use my Best Buy reward zone points and pay a measly $15.00 for a brand new game. Then, get Fallout 3 GOTY, Uncharted 2, and Brutal Legend for Christmas. We'll see when I head to the store tonight.

I'll give inFamous a shout as that's the only game on your list I've properly played.

Firstly it's all SP not MP but you don't seemt that fussed over internet MP anyways. inFamous is a damn good SP of decent length with a really good story line. Plus with the karma choice system (w/e it's called) you pretty much have to play through the game twice as a Hero and as inFamous to get to use all of the powers and the different side missions.

I really enjoyed it anyway :)

Re: Game Choices - Your Opinion

Well, I went with the majority as far as the votes are concerned. I ended up getting Fifa 10, Fallout 3 GOTY Edition, and Uncharted 2. I checked a few different stores last night, obviously hard to find used copies of games that just came out, so I went to Best Buy.

Get this, Best Buy obviously has the deal of buy 2, get 1 free, on top of my $45.00 from Reward Zone, on top of the fact that my wife and I brought some PS games, PS2 games, PS3 games, and some DVDs to Vintage stock to trade in (Would have been $60.00 credit; we took $18.00 credit for the one game, my wife wanted something there, and then got $30.00 cash still) and the total cost for Fifa 10, Uncharted 2, and Fallout 3 GOTY Edition plus the Fallout 3 GOTY Edition Strategy guide, our total was only $75.00!!! I am VERY happy!

Thanks for all of the help everyone! I'm looking forward to the gameage.

Fallout 3, as it is a good game.
and uncharted an Australian review show gave it a 9./10 and a 10/10 from memory (the show is GoodGame) so i would go with them.
