Re: Operation Flashpoint 2 or Arma II

I bout DR on a whim. I tried to cancel my order when i read about all the problems on release day. Sadly my game had already been packed thus i couldnt cancel my order. Ive only ever been disappointed with one game before and that was Star Wars: Empire at War. This is the second. Utter tripe & and waste of time. Cant get a game online for dog meat. Il let things settle for a week or two and try to get playing again.

I do believe ARMA 2 was the same way on release day. I am not going to uninstall it or ARMA 2 for awhile, even though I don't play much of either, just to see what direction each is headed with future patches and such.

One of the OFDR Devs came out tonight and said that the game WILL NOT have dedicated servers. Ever. They are partnered with a service called Quazal, a console hosting company that is also hosting PC servers for Dragon rising.

Not for me. I was overjoyed with ArmA2, but then i knew what i was expecting and was not hyped up by screenshots and videos. I mean its vastly superior to ArmA in every way. It just depends on what you want it for and what type of experience you want.

I have a feeling that OFP: DR will last till Christmas, maybe to the end of january at most without dedicated servers. Yet, Arma2, with its huge community and lots of add-ons, and the Expansion operation arrowhead, i can see it lasting for a couple of years at least.

Hey Mick - what mods do you suggest for ArmA2?

At the minute none really. VOP2 is a sound mod that is pretty popular. The thing with mods is that a lot of multiplayer servers dont allow them as they open doors to haxs if not managed properly. Most are managed well but they dont tell you in the browser which mods they are running. There are other community made things like vegetation mods, lighting mods, fps improver etc. Again its hit and miss whether you will be able to join a MP game with them. For example, we dont allow any mods on the Charlie Foxtrot server as we observed real server stability improvements when not allowing some mods. However, we were running the server at the ragged edge so every little bit counted.

If you want them for singleplayer or a locally then there are loads of replacement packs for soldiers, weapons and such.

ACE2 is really the one you should look out for when released. ACE (Advanced Combat Environment) for arma was really good. Its total conversion mod with sounds, models, vehicles, weapons etc. Most importantly it changes the game play alot. Its much harder than stock arma but its alot more immersive in my opinion.

You part of a clan in ArmA 2, Mick? Is that what the CharlieFoxtrot server is a part of?

Well, just looking at ArmA2 and it's obvious it's the superior game to OFPDR. Played through the Village Assault mission (#4) and had a blast. So much better than OFPDR.
