Do joysticks still work?

I hear people moaning about the falcon controls messing them up? Do they still work fine once set up?

Also, i'm about to buy one and I can't find my old thread, but what do you recommend for flying jets with. I want something fairly cheap and I don't need a thruster paddle.

At least don't get Logitech xtreme3dpro. wears out very quickly, then it's annoying to fly with it.

yes they still work fine in 1.50 and yes they are still recommended for jets.

I was going to get that cyborg X, but then I was able to fix my broken EVO.

I'm having a lengthy chat with Redfield and he's recommending the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick. It's a lot cheaper and apparently quite good.

Anyone got it on Windows 7?

They wear out after a couple of hundred hours if they are kept in stock condition. But if you change the spring inside, they will last you years without degrading a bit. Ive put mine through ~1000 hours and I dont even have to set a deadzone.

[EDIT] BTW, with 1.5, I had to reset all joystick settings because Falcon was screwing with the stick input.

Many players reported fubar'd flight controls after 1.5 install, but it was only a simple matter of going in and deleting the falcon control assignments (or alternatively, setting all joystick controls to primary rather than secondary). Very easy fix, but DICE was lax in getting the word out, so it caused a good amount of confusion the first week or so of the patch. The whole Falcon integration just wasn't executed well..

I, too, vote for the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick. I don't own one, and used to figure the cheaper price meant they were junk, but after seeing one in the store, I have to say they have a very good and comfortable feel to them. Can't comment on the longevity tho.

I only use a mouse and keyboard and seem to do fine, haven't found a joystick that I would feel comforter with...

I see a lot of people saying "do not install the software on the CD!", is this correct?

If your OS can auto-detect the joystick and can read all the inputs (I think Vista/Win 7 are pretty good with the plug-and-play stuff), then yes, I have also heard it is best NOT to install the software CD.

XP on the other hand, is not as intuative.

The problem with the CD software is that you can not calibrate. So after some time the stick tend to turn to one side. Makes it difficult to take off.
So use only windows if possible.

I had one xtreme 3D pro, then got another when I lost it during moving. So now I have 2. Oh well they're cheap as hell anyway. And I like it a lot.

Anyway, this whole falcon thing was really pissing me off as I couldn't find any falcon controls to delete. Untill I set the controls back to default. So nice to be able to fly again.
