here is the story i just got me a new asus gaming laptop and installed bf2 on it, i got all the correct patch but some how with a great wireless ping of 40 and below punk buster keeps kicking me out? im not a computer wiz so im not sure if there is a setting in my connections that i did not turn on or off? can anyone help me? thanks much love!
Once installed go ahead and start Battlefield 2 then alt+tab. Now open your task manager and you should see PnkBstrA.exe running as SYSTEM
Also to be safe, make sure in your antivirus and firewall application that PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe are set to have full access in/out tcp/udp, etc. and excluded from your antivirus (exception) if you are still having problems after giving it full access through your firewall.
These can be found at:
C:\Windows\System32\PnkBstrA.exe
C:\Windows\System32\PnkBstrB.exe
or
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PnkBstrA.exe
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PnkBstrB.exe
Logs can be found at:
C:\Windows\System32\PnkBstrA.log
C:\Windows\System32\PnkBstrB.log
what alex said. My friend was getting a similar problem, he just had to restart the service to get it working properly again. Also, try updating punkbuster manually just in case. These sort of things usually end up sorting themselves out somehow. That's how punkbuster rolls =/
You can check by joining a server, alt-tabbing out and checking process manager (under ctrl+alt+delete) to see whether it is operational. If it is, then it's a firewall issue.

not necesarily(sp?) punkbuster is just finnicky sometimes D:
Most PB issues are fixed by deleting ALL the files the installer creates & re-installing. Over zealous Firewalls are also a definate problem - Add Punk Buster/.exe to the Allow list.
All other issue post about, apart from what sounds like Vista issue, let move on to Win 7.
