What the heck is an "aiming assist"

So I'm playing last night and a message pops up on my display that said:

"You have received points for an aiming assist."

That might not be the exact wording, but it did say aim assist.

What the heck is this?

I'm assuming that perhaps I spotted a target that someone later destroyed?

were you in the rorsch ground canon just before that? i never got it myself but i remember most have gotten it after they were in the canon and left. from what i know, it's a left over code from something they decided not to implement but still gets activated on rare occasions.

It probably said "targeting assist".

I've seen threads in other forums where various people CATEGORICALLY state that they know how they are caused, and yet there are always three or four slightly different versions given for exactly what constitutes a targeting assist.

I predict the same thing will happen here...

Now that you mention it, I think it did say targeting.

And yes, I was in a Rorsch on Port Bavaria hammering away at the Goliath.
