    Time for some 1.5 BF2...

I posted over in OT trying to get some people to shoot our way through the 1.5 update, figured I could find some more people over here.

Updated and ready to rock! Played a couple of rounds of vanilla and I suck with the sniper rifle, that's what I get for playing COD4 hard core where sniper rifles are one hit kill (center mass).

1/3 of the time it's not even one one hit kill if you hit in the head in BF2.

Bf series is notorious for having somewhat weaker then realistic weapons. And i dont know why. You would think with the popularity of other games with more realistically powered weapons, they would take the hint and go with whats popular. I've heard people comment on the weakness of BF weapons since BF1942.

I've always had to turn to mods for a fix in this area. Except mods usually contain more then just weapon upgrades. It would be nice to have what i call vanilla+ to play also.

Im waiting for the patch to play BF2 again. :)

Haha, this is true. In 1.41 if you take your time lining up a headshot on someone just laying on the ground it usually doesn't kill in one shot, yet I one shot someone yesterday while running. Random or not I figured it some good BF2 irony.

After 4 years of shotty hitboxes, I've become used to it, so it will be an adjustment assuming 1.5 delivers on the boasted improved hit registration.

As a result, sniping was never quite an exact science in BF2 due to the hitbox / lag issues, but more often than not, a headshot would result in a 1-hit kill. Still, there are a number of instances I can recall where I unloaded an entire clip worth of headshots at a target without proper registration and ended up only getting a kill assist in the end. Frustrating.

While I was playing BF2 I adjusted for the hit box, normally a little behind or in front of the head and I had above 50% accuracy. Its just I'm now aiming at targets that are just so darn small. In COD4 they were large and could shoot back, but in Battlefield 2 they are small, but can't see you or shoot back at those ranges.

DICE confirmed that editing the config file to match ping did absolutely nothing in terms of hit registration data being sent to the server.

Re: Time for some 1.5 BF2...

Speaking of hitboxes, am I the only one whose hit detection/hitboxes/whatever gets worse the longer the game is played? On my first round or two my reg is great (or at least decent); my bullets hit where the gun is pointed, I can shoot people who are bunnyhopping with almost no issue, I don't get killed in one shot by MP5s, etc. After those first 30 minutes or so, it starts to go to **** where all I ever get are kill damage assists, unloading a pistol clip on a stationary target 5 feet away from me results in no kill, I get (seemingly) instafragged by any and every weapon, I get killed after going around corners, and even the kills I do get happen a half second after I stop shooting (does it really take THAT long for an AK-47 round to travel 25m?). At that point I also notice that my TV missiles lag such that when I press the fire button the screen will freeze for a half second before finally giving me control of the live missile camera. I also notice at this point I stop getting the hit confirmation on my crosshairs, even times when I do get a kill/hit.

And 1.5 is going to allow the usage of more than 2GB RAM? I wonder if it's a RAM problem that's causing it. Memory leak? Anyone else get this or am I just a lucky one?

Worsening registration will either be down to an increased ping, or failing that, the server coming under more load and being slow to process.

He didn't say he edited the file or used any console commands. I think he was talking about just compensating by aiming for the invisible hitbox instead of the player model.

Oh woops, I thought he was talking about that so called tweak in the configs.

But that's the thing, I seriously doubt it's the server that does it, because this happens on every server I play, regardless as to when they restart. My first 30 minutes of the game are fine (unless I'm playing on a server over 100 ping, which is hit-or-miss if you'll pardon the pun), and after that it just goes downhill. It does this in BF2142 also so I can only play in 30-minute sessions before having to deal with this. I've done everything I can think of on my end, including getting a new computer and fibre-optic internet and it still happens. If it's the server, why does it seemingly only affect me and everyone else is able to shoot and kill me so easily? It's not like I forget how to play after 30 minutes, but to others on the server it probably seems that way. :p

hmm... the only other thing I can think of is that for some reason your data is being routed inefficiently by your ISP?
