A few questions :: Please have your say

Been away from BF2 for 3 years ever since BF2142 released.

Now I want to follow my friends and go back to BF2 to have some infantry fun.

Boy, BF2 has changed tremedously. Or I've been too use to BF2142 that I can't play BF2 easily.

    Now that I returned to BF2, BF2142 comparing to BF2 is a dumb-down version.

In 2142, for infantry I usually have 3-4 kd on good days and 2 kd on bad days. In BF2, I seem to be having trouble keeping more than a 2:1 kd.

Anyway, I need some help getting my old BF2 boots back and pick up my M16 again to frag.

Few questions needs to be answered so please do so truthfully

    1. Is infantry all about Stop, Drop and Roll and spray?
    2. Is grenade spamming the only way to get kills?
    3. Why does my M16 Seems to have trouble hitting enemies from a far while zooming? Hit not registering.
    4. [Noob Question] Why do I avoid the bloody claymore? - - Prone? Crouch doesn't work, it does in 2142 but not in 2.
    5. The muzzle of my gun while zooming is blinding my aim when zooming the M16; what's ways around this?
    6. I m having trouble seeing the enemy on certain maps [Karkand], any tips to finding the enemy? I find them by the muzzle; their skin blend into the shadows
    7. What's the ideal range to use the M16 to pick out targets? 150m Max?

    Much appreciated!

    1. Pretty much, hopefully that will be fixed in the 1.5 patch due out soon, which will decrease accuracy for a few seconds immediately after going prone effectively rendering the jump/dive then fire technique useless.

    2. Depends on the map, in Karkand and Jalalabad, you bet. On other maps, not so much.

    3. Iron sights in BF2 are joke and have always been a joke, hit registration will be improved in the 1.5 patch, hopefully that will have a positive effect but it won't change the fact that the iron sights in BF2 are botched.

    4. Patch 1.5 will introduce the ability to crawl past claymores.

    5. Don't know exactly what you mean. Sometimes switching into and out of iron sights can be a little buggy.

    6. Go towards the enemies flags and attempt to capture them? Should be plenty to kill once you get close.

    7. Any range, just fire in semi for medium-long range and burst for CQB.

Re: A few questions :: Please have your say

      I lose at infantry for:

      1. Claymores, can't get pass them
      2. Stop drop and roll, in most games, sudden prone will reduce accuracy greatly, I have a habit of first 2 bursts, crouch, stand up fire. I lose even to support guys.
      3. The fire/Muzzle of M16 blinds my Iron Sight, found out how to solve it. Turn off dynamic light.
      4. Nade Spamming
      5. Hackers shooting me through walls with G36E

      =============================================

Found out that the hitreg on BF2 tend to be slightly towards the right for the M16s. Had to adjust accordingly.

      Thanks for your input.

        1. On distance: stop, drop and single fire. CC: Strafe and spray
        2. No, but it's good way to "soften" defenses :) (I use it that way)
        3. Don't spray. Use single fire mode.
        4. Wait for 1.5 patch. Now it's impossible
        5. No.
        6. That's normal and depends on map. Turning off shadows may help.
        7. Honestly I don't know :P If you see target, you shoot.

          1. After 1.50 Update, No. It will be more realistic because people will Crouch instead of doing mega super tricks in air and splatting to the ground on their stomaches while headshotting at the same time.

          2. Hitboxes are better and there are less grenades per kit after 1.50 Update
          3. hitboxes
          4. After 1.50 Update, you can go past them proned.
          5. ignore it
          6. Better resolution, use Anisotropic Filtering 16x
          7. 300m max

            1. Unlike those above me to be honest no i dont think it is. At times yes its about battling away but infantry only can invole tactics and strategy. This is notcied more on the big 64 player maps when you can ambush enemies or go behind and cap point.

            2. Depends which map youre on and how long the match has been going on. First couple of minutes on inf only karkand i would say yes but after that tactics come into it and if a point gets capped then play opens up more allowing more gun kills.

            3. BF2's hitboxes are all over the place. You wont be the only one.

            4. When the latest patch is out (1.50) then it will be possible to prone while going past them and not getting blown sky high.

            5. Ignore it. Nothing else you can do

            6. Hmm. Depends which way you mean. If its actually finding people to kill then do whats been said in this thread already. Cap a flag and watch them come. Otherwise turn anisotropic filtering up.

            7. With the BF2 hitboxes. About 180 i would say.

              Thanks for all the answers.

What do you do when a entire squad of 6 runs at you? You have no grenades.

I can handle it in 2142 with Herzog and Krylov or Scar along with pistol.

In BF2, with the burst fire and only pistol sidearm, the best I can do is run and call for help.

Are there a lot of hackers in BF2?

Not really, just make sure you play on Punkbuster enabled servers.:salute:

To be fair, you're not really supposed to win 6 vs. 1 fights, in this or in BF2142. If you win those fights in 2142 it's likely because you were playing against Team Retard. Infantry combat is different in BF2 than in BF2142, but I don't honestly find it any more difficult. My hitreg sucks pretty equally in both games, so that's a push. So long as you can adapt to the instaprone BS it's not too tough. What kills me the most is my tendency to use ironsights a lot (since hip shooting is arse in BF2142) and since all the guns in BF2142 use the red dot optics and the fact that many of the BF2 ironsights are misaligned (some worse than others...I'm looking at you MR-444) I often miss when I think I should be hitting. Add that to my already arsetastic hitreg and it's a recipe for inverted pwnage.

What's largely different is, as you mentioned, the claymores, but also the arty and aircraft. Since I have zero desire to play IO I get the pleasure of dealing with arty that insta-kills any infantry near it and seems to always be targeted right at me as well as aircraft that are very easy to get killed by. Those two aspects make BF2 more difficult (and random) than BF2142 by a large degree and are what bring my KDR down (luckily I don't give a flying **** about stats  ). The bright side is that with BF2 there are a few servers running all the maps so you get a good variety, whereas all that I can find running in BF2142 is Suez titan and 24/7 Gib. :hmm:

Here's a guide to the true aim of the guns, most of the sights are off in BF2. http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=75820

For 5, are you getting shot while running around a corner or other places where you were exposed right before you were killed? Sometimes the hitboxes, netcode, lost packets, etc, will make it seem like you were under cover, but to the server the bullets killed you before you got there.

Re: A few questions :: Please have your say

The hacker was literally inside the building at SQUARE at Karkand, I realized the muzzle and flashes were coming from inside the building; a sniper on top of the building was shot from below. My entire team ignored that flag.

You are right, I find that most Iron Sights are off quite a bit. It's no difference close range, but long range bursts, I notice I barely hit them.

Wolf is right, I m not suppose to win 6 v 1 fights; in 2142, I win occasionally against team idiot who insists on reviving dead teammates before finding the killer. In BF2, I usually run away leaving a few gifts behind, their claymore or half primed nades around the corner for them to run after me. Sometimes as sniper, I drop a claymore and run to the next block and turn around to watch. If their medics try to revive the claymore victim, I toss a nade. Sometimes I get lucky and wound or kill their entire squad.

You are right as well, BF2142 rely on cover and crouch behind the cover. BF2 is all about stop drop a roll, that's why I was lost at how can everyone suddenly jump prone and hit me 90% of the time without any loss in accuracy. I still have a bad habit of shooting from my hip upon encounter.

I was nr 1 dogfighter in China in 2142 but I don't want to fly in BF2. Seeing the 8 people waiting for J10 or Apache or WZ-10. I find going around in a bugger road killing idiot snipers more fun. The Arty hurts more in BF2 which also caught me off guard.

                      Thanks for the guide Wizard.

Is there such thing as one shot headshot using guns other than sniper? Particularly the L85A1? Being one shot killed by that gun a lot of times. My M16 can't pull that off.

Any gun that can do at least 34 damage can one-hit-kill with a headshot. Besides the snipers, this includes the L85A1, AK-101, AK-47, F2000, G3, PKM, RPK-74, and L85A2 (EF). The two engineer pump shotguns can OHK also, but a headshot isn't necessary there.

The M16 cannot because it only does 30 damage per bullet, so a headshot would bring someone down to 10% health. And burst fire is extremely inaccurate with the M16, even at close range. It's got a large amount of sideways recoil so even if a target it standing still the bullets can easily miss to the side. Most people will either use unlocks or will drop the M16 in favour of an AK when they can. I like the M16, myself, it just doesn't happen to like me very much. :p

The M16 serves my purpose of being a medic.

I m suppose to keep my squad alive and full health instead of joining firefights.

I use M16 to provide some additional fire power or take out that lone grenader.

I would never go against someone using Assault, Engineer or Special Forces. Their unlocks are much more effective than mine.

The instaheal medic bag and defib are a lot more useful in an infantry battle than those other classes' equipment.

And since you bring up unlocks...
