Damn you Steam! You made me buy more game than I can chew!

Since I get my steam account, I already purchased:

M2TW
Republic Commando
HL2/EP1
HL2/EP2
HL/DM.

Their weekly discount is ridiculously irresistible. Since I play mostly older game now, I don't plan a major upgrade until 2011. However, I actually don't have enough time to play all these game. I need to read Python, contemporary events and spend a lot of time at work. Damn you Steam!:cussing:

Damn straight! I haven't played through both expansion packs to Half Life yet even if they've been on my steam for more than half a year now.

It's so convenient, and online money doesn't feel like real money. It's still not as bad as Xbox Marketplace where they add an additional level of disconnect with the whole "points" thing. That's just diabolical. That's one obvious reason for the huge sales of DLC and games like BF1943.

Ooooooooooh yes it is. This is why I love it and I always spend monies on it and their deals are usually pretty damn good! I got Empire Total War for £15 for gods sake. I couldn't find it that cheap anywhere.

Because of the stalker forums I am rather weary of steam. I think its darkest moment is for stalker there was a patch that was recalled because of a multiplayer issue and certain bugs that it caused but to this day steam forces it. (though I have the retail version, I used the patch and had no issues)

The only reason i dont use steam to buy games is due to my poor download speeds, on a good day it stays consistent an 120kb/s. which means most large games are easier for me to buy from Play/Amazon due to the fact it usually gets to me within 3 working days.

Comparing in store prices and other digital distribution services, Steam usually has the same to higher prices on older games. Newer games usually have the same price as physical copies, standard MSRP.


Of course, the occasional deal on Steam is extremely worthwhile, but, in my opinion, digital downloads should never cost more than the other options. Part of the money for physical copies goes toward the packaging, manual, discs, etc., right? So why do I have to pay the same amount when I get less than the in-store consumer?

Well they're not really allowed to sell the games at a cheaper price for the digital copies, because that would upset the manufacturers, and cause consumers to stop purchasing from the shops when they find out they can get it cheaper online, which would eventually put the shops out of business... and then eventually put the manufacturers out of business as they would have copied too many games which don't get sold...

Well I'm sure its some sort of agreement between game producers and the digital distributors. It is kind of a ripoff to still have to pay $50 when your not actually getting a DVD/CD or paper manual....there should be some sort of discount and if that does put the brick and mortar stores out of business then that's just natural selection.

I haven't bought a physical copy of a game in over a year now, think I bought Crysis last spring cause I was at Walmart and had money to burn in my pocket. I live a good 45 minutes away from a store that carries a decent supply of computer games though. Walmart's selection sucks as does Gamestop's (which they're still 30 miles away), which leaves the Best Buy 50 miles from here. So down with Digital Download prices.....and I love steam for it.

Wonder if anythings going to be on sale this weekend (noticed L4D came down...still haven't bought it).
