There's also a group of those barrels next to the the airstrip at refine, and another at the gas station by river. I mentioned on the UK forums that I like to push em out onto the airstrip - especially when they're invisible (they're invisible sometimes).

That vid is pretty neat. I didn't know they had the dump truck that early on; is it included in the game files or did they pass it off as new content in one of the boosters? And what's up with that red truck? Is it the same as the white one from SF? The commentary is very interesting as well.

The dump truck is included in the vanilla BF2 game files, it's drivable. There's also a white pickup in BF2, it's basically the same as the one in SF except without any guns. Interesting that they said they were going to include lots of civilian vehicles, even though none of them made it into any of the vanilla BF2 maps. Might as well throw in a plug for Sandbox - the dump truck is included as a spawnable vehicle if you want to try it out.

The Blackhawk with rockets is funny because they even have the damn thing on the back of the BF2 box.

Yeah, there's no real reason I see for removing civilian vehicles. I think the moving barrels were taken out because the physics on them are horrible - they bounce around in all sorts of ways, making them powerful enough to destroy tanks randomly. They can also glitch you into walls.

DICE somehow managed to make the dynamic object physics even worse in Frostbite - you jump on any dynamic object and it either bounces and slides out from under you or just explodes. I guess it's better than having it spin around and destroy vehicles, but come on guys, even Fat Princess has PhysX built in.

I remember watching the video in the original post a billion times pre-release. Good times.

Satnav attempted to recreate the dynamic objects and I think he got them pretty spot on except the trees are a bit too 'free'

It's good to look back and see how much the direction of the game as changed and how close modders are getting to replicating the old game.

I don't think 2142 changed as dramatically from the beta to the released game aside from the swapping of the air transports from one faction to the other and the swapping of the lmgs. I think the only other noticable changes were the factions getting better uniform colours and a few HUDS.

Have mods such as PR or FH used dynamic objects yet?

^^ i know PR has destructible buildings but prob nothing more dynamic. also PR has had laser designation for a while.

Plus, its a good thing they got rid of the bhawks with the rocket pods. blackhawks are supposed to be used for transport and if they had rocket pods, ppl would just solo them without picking anyone up. kinda like APCs which are meant to be heavy transports instead of a killing machine.

annd they probably removed a bunch of that stuff since most people back then probably didnt have computers that could handle that stuff. better explosions, the heat bending light thing at the exhaust of some vehicles, 3D iron sights.

Good point, especially with regard to APCs being whored instead of used as intended: to get squads into action.

In practice, I wonder how effective the BH would actually be as an attack platform w/ rockets.. it doesn't have near the manuvering capability of an attack helo, and using the rockets would require a strafing run which would put it low, slow and exposed. The .50s would love a nice big target like that.

I guess where it could potentially make an impact would be helping to clear a CP of infantry prior to (or in tandem with) dropping a squad in, clearing the roofs, etc. Also, imagine how far that would have put the balance off on a map like Mashturr City, pre-BH nerfing. Yeah, probably best they were removed from the final model.

I've never seen APCs or transport choppers being used as an actual transport. Usually it's a killing machine or an one time use thing. Making transport trips in BF2 doesn't make much sense either, unless your team is stuck at the main base, they're scattered around the map and you can't fill up a APC or chopper.

Maybe APCs and transport choppers should become spawnpoints. Not like 2142 where you just ditch it somewhere and let people spawn, but if there's someone in it, his teammates can spawn in too. Like the squad leader vehicle spawn, but for the whole team.

You could have have the rocket Blackhawk on asymmetrical maps like Clean Sweep and Wake, with the regular Blackhawk on the rest. It'd add a nice variety to the vehicles.

I dunno but It would be nice to see a mod where they try to make battlefield 2 what it was like in the trailers, kinda like the "lost alpha" mod from stalker that tried to use some stuff from a released early build.

Actually I've tried to recreate it long ago when I was learning max.

I was working on "Alpha" mod with Jones(someone may know him, he is a really good mapper). I was working on statics and vehicle/weapon tweaks and he was working on Divided city map remake. It was going well but we never finished it
