Oh and Jo, whats the Bet that Treyarch's next COD wont have the Price rise too? It seems this is activisions doing, not IW.

B/c it sets a new standard for the PC price. People just look at this one item and think that's it, they're not looking at the bigger picture here. If they charge $60 and people pay for it, why shouldn't every PC game charge $60? Then, how about $70, etc. And this game was probably cheaper to make than CoD4 b/c they didn't have to build an engine this time around.

And Activision's head pig said that he would like to charge even more than the $60 price tag, a lot more. So be careful what you wish for.

You guys may have noticed that since COD4 we have had a worldwide recession. Its been difficult for the gaming industry. Prices have inevitably gone up. Also, you should remember that in the world right now, the dollar is worth a alot another contribution to a raise in pricing.

Right, but the recession doesn't stop with a business. Its a bad time to raise prices and not just for Americans, but for all.

Well, first a MSRP is only a suggestion. So if Activision says the game is $60, it does not mean everyone HAS to sell the game at $60. The problem with that is Activision will sell the game to resellers at a $10 markup. Sooo, what will the resellers do?

The next thing to check on about a mark up is what is the average price for a new game of the same type? In the US, the average price of a new FPS game that is a standard edition is generally $49.99. BF2 was $49.99, 2142 was $49.99, CoD4 was $49.99, CoD:WW was $49.99. Activision comes out and says it is $59.99. Is that a price increase?

Now this is all basics and simple price checks. Some places sold games for $47.99 and $39.99 and so on, but the average was $49.99.

Now it could be that Activision is saying it is going to be $59.99, but all the retailers sell it for $49.99. At that point, its not a price increase. It IS, but it did not happen. Maybe it was a ploy to get everyone to sell the game at $49.99 instead of the broad range of prices you can sometimes find.

Anyway, I am still interested to see how this all turns out with the boycott. Its obvious already that some have dumped the game to see what happens and some are marching forward regardless.

We shall see.

Inflation has to occur for your statement to be true. Otherwise, it is quite the opposite. When the market is bad, businesses need to sell their product and raising the price is not how that is going to happen. Plus, smart companies actually excel during recessions, or at least definitely at the turn around. Bloated/improperly structured/ignorant companies are the ones who fail.

Look at the US car companies. Unions screw things up, plain and simple. A guy who barely graduated high school can make $20 an hour while a guy who graduated from college is working a job only making $11 an hour, even though his job requires more thinking. Seriously...greed can screw things over.

The people who voted "Yes" to the boycott on our forums only equal about $45k dollars, obviously not a big deal compared to the millions of dollars that will be sold because of this game. BUT, the numbers across the net may make retailers lower their prices as Crunch said. AND, there is this thing about what is right...not just what the majority does, or that 'there is no choice'. There is always a choice, don't just be a sheep.
