Do the grenade Launchers suck, or do they suck arse?

Mind you, I did get quite a good kill with a flashbang the other day, tossing it into the end of an alleyway with a camping support then dashing in straight away, so I wouldn't say it's completely useless.
Yes, it is possible to pull off neat moves with these things, just the other day I flash banged a raping MEC chopper at TV station and then watched it drive in to the ground, thus allowing USMC chopper into air. (of course, I got no points for this and certainly wasnt one of those even near the chopper in order to climb in it)
However in attempting to pull of stunts with the flash bangs u are far more likely to get killed yourself. In the situation you describe, just imagine there had been just one other enemy in the vicinity....you would be dead. The length of time it takes to arm and use the Flash Bang is something like 3 times as long as it takes to use the grenade. So your reaction times and general skill are meaningless the moment you pull out your flashbangs. I think the Flashbangs as they are, are only really any use for the Special Forces levels where you are fighting inside buildings with big rooms etc.

Ever tried defending a Flag with them? Deadly if used that way.
Yeah. On Karkand especially if you can manage to jump up on to the building overlooking the Hotel Flag (no mean feat!), and then actually get a commander who will respond to your repeated calls for a supply crate. Then you can have a field day lobbing down grenades on the dozens of hapless USMC trying to take the flag.
Re: Do the grenade Launchers suck, or do they suck arse?
A lot depends on lag/hitreg too, just like with regular bullets. When I'm lagging, even perfectly-placed UGL nades will at best net me a kill damage assist, never a kill. I've had a guy lying down prone below me while I'm on a ledge above, I've shot a nade and had it explode literally on his back only to not be rewarded with the kill. Hand nades aren't as picky with lag since they have a larger blast radius but since the launchers require very precise hits you really notice when you're lagging. When lag is not an issue (which is rare, for me at least ) the nade launchers are great.
Re: Do the grenade Launchers suck, or do they suck arse?
One of my favorite moments with grenade launchers is when an assault infantry launches one at the hostile DPV/FAV at close range only for the grenade to bounce off and kill the launcher.
I don't find the grenade launcher to be very practical on direct assault against infantry especially at close range. It has respectable effectiveness when used as some sort of mortar assuming you have good cover, good fields of view, and limitless ammo. It's most effective as a DPV/FAV killer only.
Anything else the GL does, the hand grenade can do better.

i haven't used it from older patches but i find it pretty good as it is. i can't imagine it used to be much more effective, no wonder it got nerfed.
Standing not 4 meters away from a Medic reviving his team mate, I exploded one right on top of thier arses and they both lived whilst i died frantically trying to rearm my machine gun.
This sort of **** is fairly typical of the contempoary BF2 assault kit player.....I dont know why I dont just go Medic which effectively is the REAL ASSAULT kit in BF2 best suited to taking flags.
