Would love the expansion packs for free, if only to make up for the rather poor BF2 patching (1.3 fail). I kind of doubt it though, especially since they still make a fair bit of money from sales, and it's a big amount of content.

Whatever the current patch size is plus 800MB (unless they use something better than .zip compression).

It won't be over one GB. Not everybody has a speedy internet connection...

They'll force people to update to 1.41 first, and then give them the 1.41 - 1.5 patch.

My BF2 disk says that AF is 385mb, and EF is 351mb... that would be 0one big patch (ohno)

            What exactly failed with 1.3?

You missed that chapter in BF2 history? Constant CTDs for many people, constant server crashes, air dropped vehicles being used to glitch into/under buildings.

              All kinds of fun...

couldn't you do that in previous versions too?

I've heard that you couldn't, at least not to the same degree. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Damn, what an utter failure then. So glad they shut down DICE Canada. Without them we'd have the smooth gameplay of 1.0 and smooth netcode without laggy hitboxes and non-registering shots.

Wow, i think that you are the first person in 4 years that has actually noticed this. Bravo. 1.0 was smooth as butter, and every patch after that decreased performance by just a little, but it became very noticeable after the first several. No matter what i have said, most people i talked to haven't been able to realize such an obvious fact. Even though the 1.5 patch is being developed by a few individuals and not Dice Canada as a whole, my gut feeling tells me that performance will decrease further... sigh.

Even worse, DICE refused to ever acknowledge the performance (and lag and hitbox) hits, and barely told us what we wanted to know after pleading so much.

I really hope that doesn't surprise you Super..it seems like all the great originals get left behind once the next version (2142 for instance) is produced. The sad part is when you take a perfectly great (excluding bugs and glitches) loved game and throw it in a complete opposite direction leaving the original to slowly wither while only the hardcores keep it alive. I miss the good ol' BF2...

I know what you guys are getting at about the whole Dice CA thing. Though SF is extremely fun and it would be nice if they put it into regular BF2 with the DLC, CA ****ed that up too.

I know there are only 2-3 guys working on the whole 1.5 patch, but in my book, I think they should have gone all the way back to the original source code from the game release and and then did a code compare to see what was added in and tweaked much earlier on. Maybe even start from a ground up approach, because it sounds like they have had to reinterpret all the junk added in from DiCE CA.

If by going back to 1.0 release, and then adding in all the little fixes for blue/red tags, missile tracking and netcode for hit detection, I think they could just call the patch 2.0 and forget all patches prior to 1.5 ever happened and we'd be happy. (though, now that I think about it, you would not get the vehicle drops and the UAV animation ingame.)

But really what would they have needed to fix since 1.0? Oh, yeah, they messed with the BH in several areas...but I don't think that would be a hard tweak either. I'm saying all this and I have know idea what challenges these poor engineers are faced with though.
