    AT rocket range

Do the AT rockets have a max range? I was looking at an Eryx rocket through a sniper scope and after a while the rocket engine effect seemed to disappear. Is this just a graphics glitch or do the AT rockets have a max effective range?

Not sure at what point they max out, but I know exactly what you're referring to. I've been out on the far side of a map, away from the main action (usually sniping or doing spec ops), and from that direction a rocket will come sailing past (with no smoke trail) and impact nearby, or continue off into the distance.

It is obvious that it is no longer guided, and whoever fired it has probably either died or has otherwise terminted control because it is always heading in a completely straight line and not manuevring on a target. The absence of the white smoke trail makes me wonder if it is just a glitch or what.

A good way to test this out is with freecam and a willing participant.

After a few hundred feet or so, the rocket loses its ability to be guided (and loses its contrail). It's a very short, unrealistic range IMO.

I have another question, at what point do tank drivers get an indication that a rocket is fired at them? For example, sometimes I fire my AT rockets over the target and then bring them back down once there close hoping that the tank drivers warning won't be lit up till it's too late.

I seem to remember reading way back in the day that if you don't want the "Lock On " sound to be heard when you fire at a tank...try to practice not zooming it in....just hip fire. (That is of course if you don't really need to guide it.....)

I think they might have a range. It's annoying tbh. It should just keep going and going and going and going :wee:

I just do what Chewie does. shoot high then bring it down. they get barely any alarm warning.

So, hip firing and eryx means no warning sound in a vehicle?

You can still guide rockets even if you're unscoped. If you switch weapons you lose guidance but I don't know if it still has the lock-on tone.

Just pointing at the target, whether scoped or not, causes a lock-on tone. In addition, you can guide the missile perfectly well without holding the fire button down so long as you don't switch weapons.

As I recall, the only AT weapon that won't give off a warning tone is the RPG-7 in SF.

RPG doesn't use a laser which is probably how you detect locks.
