Weird Mouse Problem in BF2 and BF2142

As the title says, I'm having a weird problem with my mouse in both recent BF games. My mouse just becomes unresponsive and turns to the highest sensitivity setting. Then I can't change it to another setting for about two minutes. This is happening in both XP 32-bit and Win7 RC 64-bit, the rest of my specs are over to the left.
Sometimes the lights on my MERC Stealth flash while BF maps are loading, too.
To reiterate, this only happens in BF 2 and 2142, not Crysis, CoD4, WaW, GTA IV, nothing else.

I believe I was having the same issue. You need to reinstall. That's what EA told me and it worked.

Or not. It's happening on 4 different installations on the same PC. 2142 XP and 7, 2 XP and 7. Re-installing might fix it if you lose all of your key bindings, but not if your PC just forgets you even have a mouse attached.

But you say it only happens with the BF games? Thus it would seem to be to do with a file which only the BF games require, or with your mouse itself.

Do you have a system restore date which precedes the fault? If so, it might be worth putting your PC back to that point and then running BF2/BF2142.

Still, that would mean that the particular files in both your Windows 7 AND your Windows XP installations each got corrupted independently but at roughly the same time ...which would be rather a coincidence. BUT, if it's not that, then it must be your mouse, which would be even stranger, because you say it's fine with other games.

I've already determined that this problem is caused by the combination of X-Fi Ultra High settings and a MERC Stealth.
Since BF games are the only ones I play with X-Fi specific features, those are the only games that exhibit these symptoms.
There's nothing wrong with my mouse or my game installations or my operating system installations. It's just a freak thing that happens to a few people with high-end stuff that was actually advertised as being great with BF2/2142...

yeah x-fi mode has never worked with my setup. i always got static and crackling so i just use hardware mode.

it was wrong for dice/ea to promote together with creative recommending we get x-fi for the game. the one game they tout x-fi for is the only game i have issues with my sound card.
