It's fairly old so probably been posted or mentioned before but it's still very much alive and a LOT of fun..
It's called shot online and it's a free online based golfing game which follows similar characteristics to WoW in the fact you do quests, join guilds, level up, gain stats, purchase new gear and other items which increase your performance etc etc

Like I already said, it's totally free however you can purchase "campus credit" which allows you to buy other gear which is otherwise obtainable through slightly more work.
The community itself is full of older gamers (30-60+) so you rarely get anoying loud mouths ruining the game and everyone is very willing to help out respectable newcomers :)
There is a heap of different 18 hole courses as well as driving ranges, putting ranges, practice holes and a TONNE of other items like upgrade clubs, clothes and misc items which improve ur players abilities..
Just to give you an idea of what it looks like..
This is "The Square" where most people idle, get quests, buy new gear from both the shops and the auction house, chat, register for guilds etc
And this is a screen cap of in-game..
Just thought I would post it as it's probably the best free game I have ever played :)
