Console games have to support servers and pay licensing costs to the console company. I'm not going to buy a $60 PC game if they charge the same for the console version.

BFBC2 is still $50 for the PC, $60 for consoles.

We have EA/DICE pushing their price from low ($15 BF1943) to can't-get-lower (free BF:H). On the other hand, Activision tries to maximize their profit by jacking up price. Mmmmmm..... DX11 cards are coming. I'll wait until I see COD:MW2 bundle with new XFX cards.

BF:H is PC exclusive. I runs on the old BF2142 engine.

Re: Not liking the way game pricing is heading.

I think it's a classic case of supply-demand along with a recession hit business.

Does this give them the right to increase the price, God no. But it sure as hell gives them an incentive. There will be a/some reason(s) for them to set such a price. It can be superficial or very objective.

Furthermore, owing to the nature of the current economic climate they will more than likely (and happily) increase the price of their games to atleast cover the initial cost of starting the development. The last news IW and Activision want is a net loss.

Some games like GTA4 cost a $100 million just to develop and market. I don't think IW have a budget that is even comparable. Let's say they spend around 10 - 15 million.

That means they will need to sell 150k to 230k just to cover their costs. Now, they want a profit, and lots of it. At this higher price, they will probably sell less (COD4 hit 10 million sales fairly quickly), so even if they sell less than 10 million units, they will probably still hit the same profit margin they want.

Are they justified in doing this?

                    No.

But there are people with very deep pockets, and don't mind getting a another apparent 'blockbuster' game. This is Activision's target market. They have completely ignored the middle men and have stepped up their rates above the likes of Steam games.

It's a sad day, but I guess they are desperate.

I still think they're going to lose enough customers to make raising the price a bad move. Most of the people with which I work have already said they won't buy it for any system if it costs more than regular price.

MANY people SAY things. But they don't do it.

I still remember in mid-2006, nearly 60% of Total Battlefield said they WON'T buy 2142. Guess what, early 2007, nearly 75% of that 60% ended up on www.totalbattlefield2142.com and played the game. I was one of them.

It's the way we are. We know we WANT to play the game, but the price merely gets in the way. It doesn't hinder us at all. Save up, and voila, we get it.

I only buy like one video game a year so it doesn't make a big difference to me.

Hi I might just leave this here :)

AUSTRALIA PAYS $99-120 AUD for each damn game which is $81-98 USD from my view the prices you get games for are perfect and you shouldn't complain though you probably aren't

That's because your Nazi govt. puts up a 10% tax on general sales. There are also certain taxes on imported games and by their content.

So that's not the developers fault, that's just how your country works.
