I game on my PC screen (HD) but its a dell Monitor. If your PC monitor is able to do HD, hook your ps3 to it.

Unfortunately, at the time I bought my PC monitor, I said, "Why would I ever need HD?" so I saved some money. At that time...I didn't own a PS3 lol.

Having an HDTV is so worth it. I bought a Sony Bravia KDL 46VL130 (tried looking for a link, but I couldn't find it...I can look harder later) about a year ago from the Sony outlet store. I can't say I've ever been happier with a non-video game related purchase. Watching movies and playing games has never looked better for me especially since the PS3 plays blu-rays.

For me though I don't have a HDTV playing in the native resolution of consoles is torture after playing at high resolutions a lot closer to the screen with a PC compared to sitting on a sofa like 2 metres away from the TV.

I bought a 22' HD monitor (HDMI input) and I really don't regret the extra money I had to pay to get the extra detail that I craved. It made things like reading the mini-map in GTA IV a million times easier and obviously brought it closer to PC standards of clarity.

One thing to think about when your picking up your TV is that 99% of the games on PS3 run at 720p especially cross-platform games, so it's were still not getting as good picture quality as the console can output, though I would hope with time most newer games will get to 1080p eventually.

To be honest WipEout HD is the only one off the top of my head that runs on 1080p

A lot of games stop at 720p b/c that's the max the Xbox 360 can put out. However, there are a lot of games for the PS3 that put out 1080p. On my game shelf that I just checked: Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA IV, Fight Night Round 4, Marvel: Ultimate Alilance, Prince of Persia are all capable of 1080p...at first I thought it had something to do with the fourth title in a series lol. :p Fight Night Round 4 looks amazing on my current tv, so I can only imagine how good it would look with HD.

Obviously, with the cost of an HDMI cable and the tv, I need to be wise about this decision. Not to mention, I would probably need a nice surround sound system as even with the nice tvs, most complain the speakers suck which is somewhat expected imo. I've been looking at tvs on BestBuy.com and in the store, Walmart.com and in the store, Newegg, Amazon, etc, and have been reading the reviews.

I think however, I need to get my info on what to look for spec wise in an HDTV. I know my PC monitors and what is good and such, but I wasn't sure if those same good specs transfer over to a tv? Like, will 6ms on a tv create ghosting? What size will create a native resolution that will work best with the PS3? 46", 50", 52", etc. I want a large tv with a wow factor, but if I'm sitting 8' away, will it be too big to get a certain size? Or are they sharp enough with HD that I'll be fine? I sit about 2 feet away from my 24" monitor on my desk.

well, just remember, if you want Good HD quality, you can't forget the sound.

If you wanna sit next to the action about 2 feet away, get a monitor, and some speakers, or headphones (lots of "hooking up headphones" tutorial on youtube.)

I have the Logitech z-5500's for my PC setup along with Medusa 5.1 Headphones for matches...or zombie killing.

Yeah, a good sound system would be a must.

I have like a 37 inch Toshiba tube tv that is made in USA. The fact that it is made in USA is the only reason why we still have it.

Reading text on PS3 is near impossible so I have to pull a chair up to the tv to play the ps3 most of the time to be able to read.

Yeah, the PS3 and text on regular tvs apparently is not good for most. I've been researching tvs out the wazoo this week, and I have even gone to Wal-Mart and Best Buy to see in person...the wife and I spent 2 hours just in Best Buy tonight lol! This purchase, along with a 5.1 sound system may be happening Saturday.

I recently bought a HDTV and a PS3 and i can't say i've ever been happier! It looks so amazing!!

And to the people who say the PS3 can't put out 1080p, like said before it's because of the Xbox.
You just need to turn off all the resolutions except for 1080p in the PS3 menu to get your 1080p.

MGS4 and all the games that truly support 1080p look absolutely amazing. And just a heads up, GTA4 doesn't really support 1080p; that's because of the crappy Xbox. You can upscale it to 1080p but you might experience problems.

I'm an xboxer, but again, its not looks we go for, its the quality of the game. Now lets end the PS3 v XBOX feud here.

In my opinion, you should definitely get an HDTV if you play your PS3 a lot. At home, I got a 42" 1080p Samsung, and let me tell you, it's amazing. Some of the detail you see from the games on that system is just nothing short of stunning. Once I moved and started playing on a little 24" EDTV (yea, "Enhanced" Definition... What a joke haha), the gaming experience has never been the same. Plus, you'll be able to watch Bluray at it's full potential as well, and THAT alone is worth the TV right there.
