    Anti-Aircraft Guns

Is it me or are they extremely overpowered?

All anyone has to do is hop in any of the tons of double AA guns that dot the maps (that are nearly indestructible from the air) pop a few rounds in the direction of a plane and it goes down.

And although this has nothing to do with the above, the bombs the planes drop are useless! They have an explosive radius of a grenade, if not less.

The bombs on the planes are great!! hahah I got some hillarious divebombing kills today.

The flakguns sure are annoying but if you fly low they can't get you.

Then they finally got it right. In a situation with that much AA planes should be afraid. Reminds me of how it used to be with 1942, where you had to use skill as a pilot, and couldn't just walk all over the AA gunners.

Yes bf is about infantry all aother things are secondary....well on a island map that should be true.

atleast it not bf2 where the jet hacks rule, going past sniping form a jet at mach 3 into infantry as they go

The AA guns are very good and are as they should be. When flying I have no problem avoiding them or destroying them. The bombs do seem a bit too underpowered but I can never hit a target I always release too late.

But it's impossible to avoid them, if you fly low they just shoot above you and still blow you up. It makes sense from a balanced point of view though, so okay.

But the bombs... the bombs still suck.

AA in 1942 was ridiculous, you can even bring tanks down with it.

                is 1943 like that too?

You should be able to bring down tanks with it. AA in ww2 were massive guns that fired huge loads of shrapnel, or in the case of the germans .88's , they should be horribly devastating, as a pilot you have to pick your battles now, and you dont own the whole battlefield.

Since there isn't a German faction as of now, I don't see how there could be .88's, but all the AA to my knowledge are Bofors 20mm (?) cannon.

yes 20 mm cannos is a later proper AA gun but before that they used 88s which was a arty gun. then later they decided to put it a tank and called it the "tiger"(no other tank had a 88 at that stage!),later only the t34 sloped armour could match a tiger:).

But back on track a 20mm gun would chew thru a tank, its a 20mm vulcan gun on the A10 tank buster jets:shock:

Most Bofors during WWII were the 40mm.

Woops my bad. Haven't brushed up on my WWII history in a while.

And keep in mind a Vulcan shoots 7200 RPM...

                              KC-10 to the rescue...

Not only does the A-10 use 30mm depleted uranium rounds - the M61 Vulcan is a fighter jet cannon - the A-10 uses the GAU-8 Avenger.

The Vulcan shoots at 6000 RPM, IIRC the Avenger is now locked at 4800 RPM - the RPM toggle switch was removed in later A-10 versions.

                              Now, back on topic.

I concur Kyle - in my expert opinion, the problem is not the POWER however.

It is the NUMBER of ack-ack guns, as well as their positioning. They have been positioned in such a way that they make the ENTIRE map a no-fly zone. Add to that, the fact that they have an extreme reaching capability.

This is ESPECIALLY prevalent on Wake.

As it stands, the ack-ack on the carrier can be used in an OFFENSIVE fashion, when it should ONLY be used for DEFENSE.

I suggest that DICE remove an AA gun from the carrier. And they should remove an AA gun on the FAR side of the carrier - that is, the side furthest from the island or the other carrier. This will reduce the range and limit its effectiveness as an offensive weapon.

The fact that the carriers are so close to the island (and each other, on Wake) does not help.

At the same time, I recommend reducing the range slightly for land, and sea based ack-ack.

I also concur about the explosive radius and power of the bombs. I witnessed two bombs land RIGHT in front of me - and yet I took no damage. They landed maybe three feet in front.
