Always liked Mumble, my CSS clan has used it before

I like Teamspeak to play casually on, its got a nicer UI than Vent and imo the sound on Vent is terrible, I hate how people sound on Vent and much prefer TS.

If we were being mega serious then we would use Mumble which sounds awesome and actually has some benefits to it, we looked into Vent vs TS as well and found the delays just didn't warrant a change to vent

Mumble is personally the best, but takes a bit of time to set it up properly. Otherwise I like Ventrilo, I don't know if it's the servers or anything but I've always found sound quality to be pretty bad in TS

TS has such lower quality sound then Vent, in all aspects. I just find all of TS annoying lol. For vent it depends on what codec you are using... most people are using the default (speex) and it sounds like crap.

Mumble is epically good if you have all the players in a server (or at least more) on mumble with all the correct settings it's awesome.

We at Project Reality have been encouraging our community to play on public servers on mumble and has gone down really well so far, awesome to be able to talk to other squads that are near your, epically like to a APC squad or something when your an Infantry squad and asking them to give your squad a lift to a certain location without having to type it out all on chat since by the time you have done that the APC has left and if he aint left, they miss the text :p

That series of video is a pretty good example thou was shot quite some time ago and there are a bunch of guys playing music over mumble which will now get you banned strait away if you do that.

But ye, for me I mostly use Mumble and TS. I use to be quite a big Vent fan but the thing that pissed me off most about vent, and the reason why I stopped using it is that you had to rent a 3rd party server and it was not possible to host a vent server on your dedicated box (unless it was the really old ****ty version of vent) which when you pay like $120/month or w/e on a dedi box, you dont want to splash out an extra $30/month on anouther vent server when you could just host TS on the same dedi server for free. If vent wants to survie its going to have to make some big drastic changes to encourage people to use it as I also hear a new version of TS is coming out in the not to distant future and mumble is being worked on also where Vent from what I can see looks to be dead? dunno about that just me guessing there.

But ye, for simplicity, TS, for public play with a load of ppl on a server, Mumble


You guys are also missing out Xfire which has a new feature for Voice ingame but I've never used that.

TS vs Ventrilo? I don't know what ventrilo servers you've been on but the server provider/ventrilo admin sets the codec for the server. It can be as low as 8KHz or as high as 44KHz TS has crappy sound quality no matter what the server setting is. My ventrilo runs at 44KHz and the voice quality is great. Ventrilo has way more features/settings then Teamspeak and I could never get over the annoying default TTS voice. The UI in TS is ugly and if you use a custom Windows theme it wont apply to the TS window, on the other hand if you run a custom windows theme it will work with ventrilo, without having to change any settings. TS has no useful features in Vent you can set up binds to play wav files in the channel, switch channels without alt tabbing out, or transmit to other channels to freak out novice vent users, or transmit text to speech.

Vent or Mumble would be my choice, I wouldn't touch teamspeak with a pole stick.

My clan use Mumble and will never go back to teamspeak or ventrilo, it's just so much better and 50 slots for under £2 you cant go wrong with that...

If only the developers would release TS3. It's been almost 4 years and they still haven't finished, yet they've been saying it's almost ready for the past 2 years. TS2 is pretty bad (although most Vent servers have worse quality) and i seriously wonder wtf they are doing over there.

I will have to check out mumble, although most servers don't have mumble; they only have TS.

never heard of Mumble - will look into
but we have used TS and Vent BOTH for years
the sound quality is EXACTLY the same - but you need to use the right settings
they both have the same codecs as options
(in our experience - Vent sounds as good as REAL phone call)

I've always liked TeamSpeak's interface better than Ventrilos.
But once i got past Vent's Eastern Bloc looks, it was a lot better than TS.

As yet, I haven't mumbled on Mumble.
