  • new cpmputer - how to xfer bf2??

any shortcuts ( so as NOT to have to reinstall??)
    1. can I copy the BF2 folder(s) to new computer?
    2. what do I do about the registry settings?
    3. or should I just install from CD?
(problem is I have 4 of them and forget which CD key goes with this install)
    4. do I then just6 copy the profiles to new computer?

    thanks

if #3 - is it cd, then sf, then af, then 1.41?

I don't think there is any easy way to transfer it, its best to just reinstall.

copy your /my documents/bf2/profiles/ folder and move it to the new computer once that install is all patched up. Also don't forget to copy any localization files if you have those installed.

    install order is BF2 > SF > EF/AF > 1.41 > highway tampa.

edit: on second thought, it might be possible to move it to another computer. I'm not sure anyone has tried. you could try copying the BF2 folder in /program files/ to the new computer. also copy the /my documents/bf2/ folder.
next you'll need to extract the registry keys from the old install and move them to the new install, of course correcting any paths that are different. these 2 links show the keys bf2 and sf use:

note, if you screw up your registry you can kill your operating system. always back up your registry and know how to restore it before you mess with it.

Copying registry keys does not work. Reinstall it.

You can copy the game but you can't copy the CD key from the registry (unless you had put it in the registry manually using the x9392 method).

You can put the CD key into the registry manually by preceding it with x9392. e.g.
          [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\ergc]
          @="x9392XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"

(If the part after x9392 is longer than 20 characters it wasn't put there manually.)

or you can run "Battlefield 2_code.exe" followed by "BF2CDKeyCheck.exe" which is what the actual BF2 installers do.

It doesn't matter which CD key you use as long as they are all BF2 keys and not SF/EF/AF keys and you don't have more than one PC using the same key online at the same time. The CD key is in no way connected to a specific CD or installed instance of the game.

Reinstall but save your control.con file.

              update
              here is what I did:
I wanted to Xfer son's game to new computer
but then I realized that I might want to have BF2 on all three systems
(ergo - NOT a good idea to copy all settings - might cause conflict)
              AND
was lucky enough to find older CD keys NOT in use
(used to have BF2 on 4 home systems for when his pals visited)
so, just used my iso file to install on new system (FAST )
              and a full 1.41v patch
(skipped SF and AF - as we do not play those much anymore)
and coped his game profile to new computer
so, he can play on new computer with existing profile
              (and same account)
and we can use his older computer for server starter for his pals

thanks so all for suggestions :salute:
