Hardware spec - is it good enough?

This is one for those of you that know your PC hardware, which is something I don't.

I have a spare PC that I want to give to a friend in order for them to use it exclusivley for BF2. Before I get his hopes up, and he rushes out to buy the game, I could do with some feedback from the hardware savy whether it will be good enough to run a resolution and detail level that won't put him off playing it!

    The spec is as follows:

    - Dell Inspiron 530S
    - Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140
    - 2GB RAM
    - GeForce 8400GS 256MB GPU

There's bags of disk space, onboard sound and it's running Windows XP Pro SP3.

    Thanks:thumbsup:

Hmm, what resolution is this going to be played at? I would say It should play bf2 around medium/a few highs, but the graphics card is going to bite you in the but at some points.

It'll play, but not on high for sure.

        keep the resolution to medium
        shadows and AA off
        should be fine

The CPU and RAM are good, but the graphics card will probably struggle at medium/high. It'd be a pretty decent budget system if the graphics card could be upgraded to something like a 4670.

apart from AA, you should be good with settings on till about 1280x1024, anything higher and youll have to compromise or upgrade

id recommend starting with native resolution of your monitor. using native resolution over some lower resolution (guessing that ur using an LCD screen) makes things look soo much sharper and brigther.

              settings i recommend..

              terrain- medium
              geometry- high
              effects- medium
dynamic lighting- low or off (just makes explosions prettier)
dynamic shadows - low or off
              lighting- medium
              texture filtering- medium
              texture- medium, maybe high

              AA- off

these settings are just playing it safe.
just play around with the settings in a 64pplayer server and then change them around.

use renderer.drawfps 1 in the console to see ur fps. u want to keep it above 30fps in combat.

remember to delete your cache in
              My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
when u change settings so it can re-optmize shaders

OR u can just buy a new video card =). these days the high end video cards are getting cheap.
