Aiming games

Since the release of good hitboxes I am hoping to nerd it up and play BF2 at a higher level.

Do any of you guys know of any aiming minigames which are just click targets with your mouse, which may help me improve my game.

Not to deviate from the thread, but I've always felt that while these games can help boost your reaction time, they won't help you with aiming in a different game. The best aiming practice would be to play the game and practice from that, not in a game that has a different aiming system/speed than what you'll be using ingame.

Best you can do is play the game, a lot.

I can really recommend not to make things easy for you. Don't bother with your stats, engage in situations that require good aim etc - one tip is to use shotguns on Karkand.

Play aggresive - then you'll need to think quick and act quick because you can't afford to mess up. Make sure to customize your controls properly, if you're using the scroll wheel to change weapons you need something faster.

I don't think they're insulting you, merely pointing out the flaws in these so called "aiming games".

Anyway, since you're nearly playing BF2 at a higher level then you're sure to know that infantry play this game is all about movement and teamwork.Twitch-based aim is not very important, no amount of hitbox tweaking is going to completely change that.

If you consider aim to be far your weakest skill out of the three I've mentioned (aim, movement and teamwork) then sure, work on it. But I seriously doubt these aiming games will have much effect on your standard of gameplay.

To conclude, you're likely to get a more useful answer if you post this on any competitive gaming community who still have an interest in BF2 (if there are any?)

n.b BF2 was never made for small-scale infantry combat and is much more suited to epic 32 or 64 battles!

Those games won't do anything for your ingame aim.

The sensitivity of the game + your mouse + your windows sensitivity will make everything different, and those games just aren't realistic when it comes to aiming at a target, especially a moving one.

I know I've taken every single aiming precaution there ever was and tried it, so far I've found out a few things.

- If you play games like CS, games that reward good aim and fast reflexes. It is MUCH better to have a lower sensitivity and a big *** mouse pad. Your aim is more smooth, more controlled and you get more headshots.

- Play a game like CoD4, and you'll want a medium-ish sensitivity. You want to be able to do quick 180s, and its all about reflexes, but you have a large target to aim at.

- Play a game like TF2, UT, Quake you'll want a high sensitivity (correct me if I'm wrong - I suppose it depends on what you're doing in each game) because its not about aiming small guns at small targets, its about leading targets, learning how to use each weapon etc.

Best thing to do is just follow these rules - and practice. You can't really do anything else except buy a nice mousepad (Sometimes more important than a nice mouse) and a good mouse (Optical/laser obviously).

Everything else is preference.

Also, turn off any sort of mouse acceleration you might have. You can get used to it - many top Quake players like fox uses accel - but in general you're much better off without it.

Stick to one sensitivity and don't change between weapons. You'll be much more consistent with the same all the time.

And yeh, these sort of flash aiming games can be fun but you'll probably never get better in any real fps game because of it.

Aiming is one of my better skills. However not this prone accuracy penalty is about to occur, my belief is that movement will not be as important as in 1.41. So instead I have decided to work on aiming.

Be well aware aiming is far more important now the hitboxes are fixed.

However I believe and reassured by my playing, that these aiming games do help a lot. I have taken the precautions with setting my dpi the same as ingame, turning off mouse acceleration.

I will combine these aiming games with a muscle memory training from counterstrike. Found this today, it shows why people are so amazing at aiming there. Also I will use a technique used by xkullx in his Shooting techniques 3, where he turns and aims in a 360degree circle around him. I have seen this used as warm up from a very good player in cod4 aswell.

I use a very low sensitivity mouse, with a giant mouse pad. I must move the mouse a good 20cm to do a 180degree turn.

So you can be rest assured I know what I am doing. But please if you guys know of any, can you post any aiming games for I need some variety.

Take out an SVD and do some swipe shooting at trees or other target while in an empty server. Each game has a different aiming system, you can't use what works in TF2 to play BF2, and vice versa.

Thank you for the advice despite saying I will be doing this. (however i do not play as sniper)

Please do not post unless you know of any aiming games. If not then let this thread die.
