Weakest weapon ever!

Okey, so today I join a moving titan server. Apply as commander and spawn as engineer. I usually go on the Field with a Sudnik-VP when iam PAC. So as iam in my stronghole I spot NME's and do my commanders job.

Few minutes later I get contact with a EU APC dropping by are silo1, I draw out my Sudnik-VP and... "surprise soldier! You have spawned with a completely useless SAAW" So I let the APC capture the point While I go back to spotting and I say to my self might as well try out the SAAW on hostile transports. That was a total fail.

I mean this gun is not even comparable to a Sudnik-VP especially for AIR targets. Even if you try to get good shots, meaning you wait to get the AIR units back while its moving slowly, you got 1/2 chances that you second fired missile wont even touch it. PLUS the thing Locks down when it wants to locks down targets. And sometimes when you are able to get that beeping sound the missile will just go anywhere but on your target. Might as well get knifed:dead:

I really hate that gun I got 50 something kills with it and they gots to be lucky shots, I dont even remember them. Worst gun on 2142

I once got a distinguished combat efficiency pin using the saww. I took down 2 transporters and 1 gunship. I rarely use it against air vehicles now, i like using it against infantry to get a "WTF?"

It's more of a fun thing, and occasionally it can be really useful if you got a skilled funship driver on the opposite team.

My favourite map to use it on is Suez, because it's so tiny and gunships have very little place to hide. :evil:

it's waste against full health transports. Pilum or sudnik is much better for those situations. About the only time i bust out the SAAW is when there is a good gunship pilot on the other team. 1 SAAW missle will take 50% of a gunships health.

The trick with the SAAW is to hold the fire button after you fire the missle. This keeps the reticle up and you can follow the target while keeping lock making your hits much more successful.

SAAW is great. Its a bit tricky to figure out at first, which raises the frustration factor quite a bit.

after few yrs i still havent really figured it out. too many of my shots don't chase or just poop out.

Also, don't underestimate the panic potential when a pilot hears the lock on tone. I've seen guys freak and crash thinking they were in the sites of a gunship.

It's also handy to soften up the targets for your teamates to then take out more easily.

Of course if you're all about points, none of this probably interests you.

I have used the SAAW a few times just to annoy the Gunship whores who fly around on maps like Suez and Tampa.

In fact I once devoted an afternoon to taking down Gunships on Tampa with the SAAW and the whores were absolutely livid I did nothing but camp out in the wastelands locking up Gunships and Transports. It's hard to get a kill with it but I still took down a fair few.

You still can do that lock on tone with a sudnik, but why soften a target when you can just make them burn and explode. I took down very good gunship pilots with a sudnik, as they hear the lock on tone they always think its a weak saaw until they realise they got to bail out or die. And if they manage to bail out, well ill be waiting for them :evil:

As for the points I dont care as long as i am an impact for the opposing team, it works for me. tThats why I like the versatility of the sudnik, making you a better and more effective anti air/ground unit.

Sudnik and lockon, I know it use to lock on back in my old playing days of v1.0, but recently as I play I have noticed that it and the AV-18 do not lock on, just allow you to manoeuvre the missiles in flight

it dose not lock on, but it dose do the same panicking noise of the SAAW when you aim at any vehicle.

I heart the saaw but I never use it on transports unless they're already smoking. Ammo is tight enough without it going to waste.

In the early days, the thing with the SAAW was its rarity value, because it was on the opposite unlock tree from the Pilum, for which everyone tended to go 1st. Gunship pilots weren't even *thinking* about avoiding SAAWs... Of course now the battlefield is full of people with all the unlocks anyway, so that's no longer really much of a rare selling point.

Yes it's not very versatile, and yes there's a significant chance of a miss in lots of situations, but there is still no better non-static weapon for engaging air vehicles in Battlefield 2142.

Just one thing though: Interrupting someone else's dogfight with a SAAW is like interrupting someone else's knife fight with a gun. ...It's just not British.

I have 1 (one, uno, eins, une) SAAW kill and I don't even have choosen this gun with my 3rd soldier yet as it's probably the last I'll select b4 getting the BG rank (3 to go).

Dunno what happened, once I spawned in Gib EU base and got an immediate SAAW kill and I was like Whaaaaaaat?? I didn't even had the weapon.... One of these BF2142 unexpected miracles...
