yay for $100's worth of games and still bored.

Ok, im gonna sound a little snooty and spoiled in this post but just hear me out. Ive got a pretty large list of PC games at my house (some are Farcry2, RCT3, BF2, Black and White 2, Crysis, Sims[pretty much all of them], D2, CoD4, FSX, Guild Wars, Halo, RTCW, Oblivion, Spore, WC3 Series, Audio Surf, CS:S, DoD:S, BF2142, and the orange box). Now, more then half have been inherited from my brother or friends, but some recent titles have been bought by me. The only problem is, im bored as hell. I have no cash, and every time i go on the computer i say "Why bother?" and go and watch TV or throw some discus outside. Ever since i started track throwing discus and shotput this soph. year, ive had a very bland taste for the computer. I also feel like a jerk because i have all these games, yet nothing to play. All of these games are quality, addicting games that could keep me entertained until my computer is no longer working because the apocalypse has hit and the electricity isnt working. Any suggestions on how i can sproose up my outlook on the gaming scene?

Edit: Btw, i just realized that this is probably the reason i havent been active on the forums lately. wierd.

Try some mods for the game you have. Maybe a new hobby, Gaming might not be your thing anymore?

^ This is a very smart statement.

People play games for many different reasons:
      - some enjoy a bit of social interaction and competition with their RL friends in the same room on Console
      - some like the stress relief
      - some like the idea of playing casually vs others around the world, whether on Console or PC
      - some discovered they were quite good at certain games, and like to compete...esp if they wanted to play actual RL sports but weren't successful
      - some got into it while they were temporarily stuck in the house for whatever reason, and stayed with it
      - some have poor social skills/phobias/etc in the "real world", but do very well in "e-relationships"
      - some are flat-out addicted or use it as a crutch to fill certain voids in their lives
      - etc, etc

Think about why you got into gaming in the first place, and what you got out of it. As time goes by, situations change, people change, and their reasons for gaming change. Some get into it later, other drop it later. See if you can understand where you're at now. It may be time to move on, or just pull back and be more selective of the games you buy as you find yourself playing less.

Getting outside and doing real physical activity is always a good thing though. It's very easy to find oneself spending way too much time online. It can creep up on you slowly, and damage or affect other RL activities and relationships before you know it.

Maybe some sort of competitive gaming could be fun? Like finding a team, playing scrims or maybe in leagues.

Otherwise just scrap it. You shouldn't "force" yourself to play.

Yea try to play in a team in some games, nearly all the recent 'large' titles have been really bad imo, there is little depth to most games on the scene now and its sad, Ive gone back to small companies that are brave enough to make a good game that only selects a target audience not try to please everyone and end up sucking.

Come join BFECoD and play CoD4 every Wednesday and Saturday for 10 hours straight in 16v16 battles on various custom maps with our own custom mod (which brings the Kar98k from CoD2 into CoD4)

Or join 21CW to play BF2 every Saturday (and Friday? or is it Sunday?) for 12 hours straight on there own mod with custom maps in huge 32v32 battles...

Don't pub! Frag with a community!

                This.

If none of my buddies are on and playing - I get bored really fast. I could play for hours with my friends (especially on a rainy day like today), but if its just me vs. random people then I stop playing after a short amount of time.

Yeah, like Ique and Kyle said, get with a good group of guys - and, if you enjoy competing, play in a few competitions. I know that Kyle sometimes rings for my CoD4 team if he's on and his CS:S team isn't, and even though he's completely awful at the game it's still a blast (and he's our favorite ginger).

 ive been wanting to do this lately, not something with a huge commitment but something where it actually uses tactics. like, a good bf2142 league or something, where you use tactics instead of "Everybody shoot at enemy". And as for the physical activity, ive been in powerlifting for the past 6 months since football ended, i start at 3:00pm, do cardio for 1/2 hour, then powerlift untill 4:30 then go out and throw some discus and shotput till 5:30 and then im done. And i think the reason i started playing games (when i was abt 7) was because my brother played, then i got addicted to D2. Now its more of an alternative source of entertainment, kinda like interactive movies.

FWIW, if you really are 15 yrs old, you are risking your health by powerlifting. Your body is still maturing, growing, solidifying...especially your joints. Lifting light/moderate weights in a slow, controlled manner in order to get stronger (and look good ) is one thing, and some would say even that should wait until later on, but you are putting yourself at risk (both now, and in terms of future problems) with the heavier weights and explosive movements involved in powerlifting.

Im not doin heavy weights as of yet, My sets as of now are Bench(3 sets of 8, 115Lbs) Squat(3 sets of 8, 175lbs) and Deadlift(3 sets of 8, 175lbs). I've had to had numerous checkups and my joints are healthier then normal, as are my muscles and heart rate and Blood pressure. I believe my Resting heart rate is about in the 60's which is average for an athlete. As for the risk, i'd take this over being a tubby any day, before powerlifting i weighed 215lbs, now i weigh abt 189 and feel better then ever. The most annoying thing abt my is my damn allergies lol

Edit: also, we have abt 5 coaches watching abt 20 powerlifters at all times, so controlled movements and perfect form are a must. If you go too fast, they tell you to slow down. and they remind you to breathe, not bounce the bars, etc. etc.

                          Besides:

Um i may relate to you in your thread here, this is what i do when i get bored of playing on my PC, i usually go to town for a stroll, go to my friend's flat hang out there, maybe go to the movies, try to get some fresh air, be physical. I go to the GYM every morning and hop on the PC at the evening seems to keep me above the water in not being bored.
